Please provide a detailed breakdown of your cholesterol values including triglycerides.
Elevated total cholesterol or even LDL cholesterol are not necessarily indicative of cardiovascular risk.
What is your height and weight, and your gender?
If you want to know your degree of risk, get a value for LDL-P (particle number). This can be found through a blood test known as the NMR Lipoprofile.
More importantly focus on lowering your triglycerides and uric acid levels. This can be done by eliminating sugar and equivalents.
Sugar is addictive, it shuts off your leptin hormone which regulates how much you eat. Therefore sugar and simple carbs cause you to overeat and gain weight.
Uric acid metrics are a proxy for fructose consumption. Fructose is found in fruit, which is a healthy way of consuming it, but it is also found in fruit juice - an unhealthy way to consume it. That's because juice does not contain fiber.
Fructose is present in soft drinks and processed foods.
Simple carbohydrates also increase triglyceride values - and must be eliminated.
Avoid:
- white flour products such as white bread, white pizza dough and white pasta;
- white rice and most types of potatoes except sweet potatoes which are high in fiber;
- ALL processed foods - cook whole foods;
- fruit juices, soft drinks and limit alcohol to 3-4 small glasses of red wine per week;
- fried foods as well as potato chips, crackers, pretzels and all similar snacks - they are all fried;
- avoid desserts and all baked goods;
- avoid store bought salad dressings, ketchup, bbq sauce and all other bottled condiments (mustard is okay); They all contain sugar.
