You need to offer more information, your general health, blood lipid numbers and blood glucose numbers. You doctor first look at risk analysis and offer guidance towards life style change.

Regular exercise and watching out for hidden sugar and free sugar in food ad drinks can help towards lowering cholesterol before medication, again there are some people due to genes have high cholesterol.

Your body produces 80 % cholesterol on demand and your doctor can look at this and give you advice.

Please discuss all the options with your doctor before starting medication to lower cholesterol.

I think that is your ratio which is a little high, but don't let them give you statins. Go on google and ask for patient reviews of statins! Dr. Oz U.S.Heart Specialist says he will never take them or let any one in his family take them. I lowered my Cholestral way down with the supplement from Swanson' Health catalog "Red Yeast Rice"I know the FDA took it off market after that to re do something about it, but I took it after that too and it helped! I did nothing different! It is a natural supplement that FDA uses in their Statins! I would take Red yeast Rice as directed and also Coenzyme Q10! My HDL was high 90 and I asked nutritionist what that meant and she said,"Something is really protecting your Heart!"That should work for you! Good Luck!

The most important number is your HDL. The higher the better. And your ratio between that and your LDL. For quite a few years, Doctors tried to make me take statins because my LDL 's were so high. Butmy argument was that my HDL gave me a very good ratio so NO, I won't take it! Finally I was sent to a nutritionist and when she looked at my levels she said,"Oh My! I asked what was wrong and she said she had never seen such high HDL's, and I asked what that meant? and she answered that "Something was really protecting my Heart!" BUT that never stopped Dr's

still trying to get me on statins for years because of my high LDL's. I always took red yeast rice and my ratio was always great! also my trygliserides were good! No side effects or reactions to supplement, Red Yeast Rice, either! Bad reactions to statins!

What are your lipid numbers and important ratios?

There numbers may help us to get a better understanding.

Have you tried walking daily for one hour? Have you eliminated all sugars and simple carbohydrates from your diet? Have you reduced your consumption of animal protein to just 4 meals per week? Have you replaced animal protein meals with legumes and vegetables? Do you have a cup of blueberries and an apple every day? Have you cut out all fruit juices, soft drinks and alcohol except red wine? If not, then you now have another strategy,

Good luck.

why should I do those things when my ratio and all my numbers were better on red yeast rice than if I had taken their statins! The doctor that I had didn't even

comment on my amazing numbers!

My ldl had been 300 and was down to 200 in a very short time! Another docto had the blood work redone to be sure that there was no mistake and it was the same! I can't get at it right now because your darn website has already made me sign in three times and I don't have the time to do it again. They better do something about that!!

It is best to address the cause rather than the symptom. Half of all people with normal to optimal cholesterol levels still have heart attacks and strokes.

You need to measure your LDL particle number as it is more indicative of CVD risk than LDL-C which is what most doctors measure.

Get a test done called the NMR-Lipoprofile.

Eating healthy and having an active lifestyle also keeps you from getting other chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, fatty liver disease, hypothyroidism, alzheimers, arthritis, and on, and on...

That test was done years ago. I'm 85 and have more than 15 autoimmune diseases including Fibromyalgia, Hashimotos Thyroiditis,Osteoarthritis, COPD, tendonitis, Bursitis, Gout,

Chronic pain, Afib, heart murmur, etc

You could have the correct testing for your thyroid ... TSH - FT4 - FT3 and Thyroid anti-bodies TPO & Tg. Sadly the NHS rarely do all these tests - leaving out the most important ones.

I read your post on another forum and just wanted to mention that low mood and raised cholesterol can be linked to LOW thyroid. Happy to help 😊

.... just bear in mind they do not do all the tests and thousands remain undiagnosed. I have been on Thyroid UK here on HU for seven years with 84,000 members so read of the GP problem daily ! Private Home Testing kits are available and used by 1,000's on the forum. Click onto About Testing in the link below - Special Offers on Thursdays !

Drs years ago knew the high cholesterol / low thyroid link, if you have high cholesterol get your thyroid bloods tested as Marz’s has suggested, high cholesterol has an inverted effect on low thyroid. Ask Doctor for a printout of all bloods results done and their ranges too. Then a good idea is to pop your results up on Thyroid Uk, here on Health Unlocked for members to help you forward. My husbands cholesterol was 8 he is not worried as he knows lowering your cholesterol with statins means you are lowering your body’s naturally made cholesterol. Why would you need to lower your cholesterol ? Much of your cholesterol is in your brain, so lowering cholesterol could bring on dementia or altzheimers. Drs rarely tell us that taking a statin WILL lower your CoQ10 enzymes. If taking a statin you need to take a good quality CoQ10.

Your dr is probably not aware of Scottish Dr Malcolm Kendricks The Great Cholesterol/Statin Con. or that Drs years ago before thyroid bloods were available, would treat high cholesterol with low thyroid meds until both cholesterol and low thyroid normalised.

Very well said. May be one link to read to get an understanding, multiple links, who has the time to read? Reading and understanding is another problem!

Responders may have to limit the copy and paste of links?

May be an administrative function.

Incredible - no one forces anyone to click on any link and read documents or watch videos. It's ALL a matter of CHOICE.

Some people prefer to look at lots of material so that they can make an informed decision... whilst others complain about looking at even one link.
