Hi all, Been on statins 4 years Stopped them 4 months ago mainly because of fatigue and stress...moved home because of ASB from neighbour! Wanted some proper rest! Side affects on them and off! My right foot pain stiff big toe almost as soon as I started back in 2014?! I do manage exercise but need to rest afterwards! I am under weight !! Diet is healthy-ish cook from scratch yet get sweet cravings? Also since 2008 had BPPV is balance disorder to do with my ears and more, if you've ever heard of it, takes some describing and Doctors not sure what to do,take Meds for that too. I am in my 60's hoping for a more comfortable retirement !!

I think you need to sit down with your doctor and have just a conversation about sorting it all out so that you have a balance between drugs, lifestyle and illnesses. Then your mind will be clearer and retirement will become what you want. From your post it all seems a bit hectic. Maybe I am wrong.
You cannot assess the state of your health from one blood marker alone.
Even LDL cholesterol is subdivided into fractions that are either harmful or not.
The NMR Lipoprofile is a blood test that will provide a detailed breakdown of your cholesterol components and give you a more accurate assessment.
That said, elevated cholesterol is an indicator that you have inflammation occurring within your body. Your liver produces cholesterol (in the absence of collagen) to repair the damage being caused by the inflammation. Collagen does not cause the same damage as cholesterol to arteries and is the preferred response to inflammation. In order for your body to synthesize collagen, it needs large amounts of vitamin C. You cannot get a sufficient quantity of vitamin C through your diet for 'optimal' health. Take 1,000-2,000 mg of vitamin C (make sure there's no sugar in them) - with every meal. Vitamin C is non-toxic even in large doses - the worst that will happen is you'll frequent the washroom.

In addition, measuring MPO (Myeloperoxidase) will tell you about the degree of inflammation within your arteries.
Whether your diet is healthy or not is something that most people cannot objectively assess on their own. If you want to know definitively, write down EVERYTHING you eat and drink, and at what time, for one week and show it to a registered dietitian.
The following will spike your blood glucose and create internal inflammation:
- sugar, honey, agave, maple syrup and all other such sweeteners
- alcohol
- fruit juices
- simple carbohydrates - such as white flour products - white bread, white pasta, white pizza dough; white potatoes, white rice, couscous;
Avoiding packaged and processed foods is critical, as well as fried foods - that includes chips/crisps, and crackers;

One last thing, exercise reduces internal inflammation in the body - so you need to start by walking at least 30 and ideally 60 minutes daily. You should also incorporate resistance training once you develop a daily exercise habit.

For the record - I rehabilitated myself after a triple bypass in 2015 and have now achieved an optimal state of health, so I speak from experience and have incorporated all of the recommendations I have suggested, into my own daily life (male aged 56).

I am completely put off by all these names and numbers. It all sounds so technical. I am an intelligent graduate but find it hard and off- putting to keep up with some posts which rattle off so much information. I would like to know whether these people are medically trained.l
On the one hand you complain the information is too advanced for you and on the other you question the credibility of the contributors. Did you think this was a health forum published by doctors? If you want conventional advice go to your doctor. Those who post technical information have taken the time to study the material and provide a view free of pharmaceutical-biased research and sharing our personal experiences for the benefit of others. I have successfully resolved my cholesterol issues and begun the process of plaque reversal. If you don't h think the knowledge myself and others have attained from our experiences and achievements then you are free to ignore them.
I find your attitude patronising and unhelpful. I am delighted that your cholesterol is under control may I suggest you do the same for your aggression. I did not say the information was too advanced for me , I indicated that, for those of us just joining the forum ,the information ,that for example, you provided after years of research is not helpful and quite off- putting.
