I aged 67, started taking statins last August and had a blood test just before Xmas. Results indicated my serum cholestrol had dropped from 6.0 to 3.9 and my liver function test was normal, generally showing improved readings. At this stage the only side-effect I have is increased awareness of my dreams, none bad at all so not problematic but a friend stopped taking statins because he didn't like his dreams. So I'm wondering if any of you experience this side effect and if so, is it positive or negative?
So far statins appear to be beneficial for me and if they prevent me from having a stroke and consequentially provide me with a better long-term quality of life then I will 'keep taking the tablets.'

Homocysteine is more indicative of having a stroke or heart issue if raised Lower Homocysteine with vitamins and cholesterol lowers too. Maybe you also have low thyroid - in days gone by before thyroid testing came to pass in the early 70's - anyone with raised cholesterol had their thyroids treated .....
We have to consider that modern medicine is about making money and not about wellness
I used to get terrible insomnia for the first few days after starting/restarting Lipitor, but not other statins as far as I can recall. I've not been able to remember many dreams for decades and taking statins didn't change that. The trouble with statins was the terrible pain when exercising.
