Sugar and statins: Anyone find on... - Cholesterol Support
Sugar and statins

I took statins for a year and a half following bypass surgery. I did not notice an increased craving for sugar.
If you are on statins, your doctor suspects that you have an elevated risk of heart disease. Part of the lifestyle change required to reduce your risk is to substantially reduce or eliminate sugar and simple carbohydrates such as white flour products, white rice, fruit juices, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages other than red wine.
Sugar is addictive, so the act of reducing sugar creates withdrawal symptoms which can include cravings and irritability.

Good luck.
Your craving for sweets while taking a statin is no coincidence... Before I knew that I had an issue with blood clots, I had two heart attacks and a stroke. Still, I only take medicines that I deem necessary. I was prescribed: a beta blocker, blood thinner, a statin, baby aspirin, and a blood pressure med. However, [now] I take my blood thinner every day but an aspirin when needed. [Now to my point] Whenever I choose to take the Atorvastatin [not looking at the bottle, hope I spelled it right] I notice a great crave for sweets. I have to literally make myself stop eating whatever the junk food is. For me it's usually M&Ms or a honey bun.. Nevertheless, it is true. I often times go years without the statin but as soon as I take it again, right after day number 2 or 3, the sweets start all over again. I will add this: Atorvastatin isn't the only statin that I've been prescribed. I like this one better because the other made my joints hurt a little. Then I was told something about a thing called Co q 10... Nope no thanks, no more pills please. I just switched statins through my Doc. Hope this helps verify.
