I've just had a cholesterol check and it was 7.3, the doctor advised no further action required.
Sounds like he doesn't care, so I am taking it on myself to change my diet.
I love butter and cream so those are the first things to change!
Looking for some yummy recipes??

Strange as this advice is, don't get rid of the butter or the cream. it has been proven these are not the demons once thought to be. keep a food dairy for a week or two and write down everything you eat. I have maintained my cholesterol level at 5 for many years, all I did was cut out alcohol, increased my activities and just gave up worrying. I have a theory about the time the blood sample is taken and if the a very sharp was needle. Each time it has hurt when the sample is taken, I have had a high reading, also if it is a fasting sample the time of the morning. if taken really early in the morning, lower reading, taken around 8 or 9 the reading is higher. just some observations.
Oh we have full cooked breakfast every morning, nothing fried, my ceramic pans are a wonder. So bacon and eggs are on the menu with mushrooms, home made hash browns tomatoes. Sets us up for the day. Both in our 70's and do not see GP apart now from our annual flu shot.
I use butter, cream, yoghurt, I don't buy any manufactured biscuits or cakes, I do not drink colas or the like, I do not buy frozen meals or such, everything is made from scratch and from fresh. I also am gluten intolerant.
Hi after my heart attack back in late jan had to make a life change regarding what to eat. So cut out red meat all together stuck with chicken and turkey stayed away from bread if i have to have some its brown. Eat fruit daily veg is a must stick to 3 meals a day if you have to snack have fruit instead of choc bars. And do a lot of walking. Back in jan i was 13 and a half stone now i,am 11 stone just by keeping to this. I,am not saying its gonna be easy but once you get though the 1st month with your change you wont go back . And if you like butter stick with pro active.
Recent research is that Dairy products are not the culprit, avoid any pre prepared food such as biscuits cakes and ready meals they normally contain margarine and man made oils. Also try to avoid refined carbohydrate (white flour, sugar etc) Fidgetsmum's advice to write everything down is brilliant, also alcohol is high in carbohydrate so it is better to drink in moderation.
You need to eat plenty of carrots, however a cardiologist in America recommends Peanut butter Avocado's Olives and Olive oil, look for recipes, and don't worry these are good fats not bad, and i would get a new G.P if i were you!
Thanks Bala. I am 77 on 10 mg prednisolone daily for polymyalgia. My cholesterol is 8.00 & on cholesterol reducing diet. Eat butter & cresm & dark good chocolate. My GP has discussed the pros & cons & says it is my choice but am s bit scared of such high cholesterol .
I said that on the basis that they said they didn't think the doctor cared. If that's the case then you have to change the doctor. If someone thinks that his/her doctor is good then keep them.
Ian changing my diet too where do I find yummy recipes please? Thanks for your concern.
Hello.
I have had cholesterol of 7.5 and not been prescribed statins because I don't have any other risk factors and my overall risk of a heart attack was low. I only got prescribed statins when I was 'diagnosed' with possible familial hypercholesterolemia - there then followed a 3 year saga to actually get a genetic test which is negative.
I think you should be grateful your doctor is doing nothing, since the alternative is awful, believe me. If you want to reduce your risk of heart attack eat well with plenty of fruit and veg, exercise, and don't worry about your cholesterol. In isolation it means nothing.
