Taking Aspirin every day, or not?

Does anyone know if taking Aspirin every other day instead of every day, (as a preventative measure) is just as good? I absolutely hate taking tablets! The nurse says that lots of older people have slight calcification of the arteries and it was only detected by the scan I had for something else.

Hi Jeny

Aspirin thins the blood so one a day will help the process for that day...every other day and that day your blood will be thicker. Chew the aspirin with breakfast and you won't notice it....take a drink of water as well and that is the safest way to take it. I hate taking meds as well but this is such a minor thing to do for the benefits, far better than having to resort to more complicated meds with possibly sever side effects.

I agree with Eve. Blood clots cause major problems and an aspirin a day every day is a minor deal. For many of us it is too late to try to manage our health purely by diet alone. Cardiovascular disease develops slowly over a lifetime.

what ever you do, take the aspirin. take soluble in a drop of water and a sip of orange to take the taste away. im on soluble aspirin after having blocked arteries and stents fitted.

My husbands was not detected as he had no other examinations and he had a massive heart attack and us lucky to be alive after surgery. Is taking one small aspirin every day not worth stopping this happening. To stay alive I take 24 tablets per day so thank God for small mercies. You are a very lucky person.

Just to say, thank you for all the replies to my question about Aspirin. I'm still not totally sure, but I will continue to take this every other day. Best wishes.

Hi Taking an Enteric coated Aspirin daily and you won't know you've taken it!

the pill is very smooth and just goes down easily.

it is sugar coated and much easier to slide down.

75mg is ideal, it will thin your blood...hoping you are well....

If you do take aspirin, make sure you do it with food and not on an empty stomach.

Thanks, I've actually been taking it before breakfast! I shan't tomorrow morning!

Hi Jen1eye,I forgot to mention "with food" as I felt that everyone knows this rule already,

if you didn't,..this is a definite rule,

always eat with food,or,after food, any pills or potions.

,also, never take with Grapefruit juices or Indigestion potions.

I have suffered for many years with side effects,

so,it goes without saying that I must always take pills with food...

hopefully this helps everyone.....and,water is the best thing to wash pills down..

I take Esomprazole as soon as I wake up

,nothing else for an hour...this gives that oil a chance to line my stomach.

most people I know take something similar, usually on prescription,

or,gallons of Gaviscon.....

Hi there Silversurfer, I also didn't know that I shouldn't be taking aspirin with, say Omeprazole which I take every morning! I haven't had any side effects yet though - it's been a few months - but I have noticed, strangely, my eyes have stopped watering, which they did a lot, so, fingers crossed! Thank you so much, your info has been so useful.
