Has anyone had a problem with hairdressers who do not realise how much negative effect a bad hair treatment can have on people with facial disfigurement. When I complained I was literary shown the door and not to come back!

Bad Hair Days
How awful! Sorry to hear that happened to you. People can be so cruel and thoughtless. You're right, I think our community could really benefit from specialists who know how to style hair for people with visible differences. Have you considered going to a stylist who works with people who have alopecia? I've thought I might reach out one day because it seems they would show compassion and understanding to people with differences.
Thank you for your speedy reply. My hair, once it hair regrown(I only lost the right side due to radical surgery for cancer plus my ear and a lot of my head, was always my crowning glory. It has always been pale blonde and though lockdown thanks to hairdressers. Through lockdown a lovely grey started to appear. I dreaded being a dark grey old lady aged 76 and was delighted. Every hairdresser, including the one who looked after me knew I do not do bright yellow or ash. She assured me that she could just brighten up the hair without damaging the roots . I am now a dirty ash all over and for the first time in almost 14 years i feel ugly! My lovely frame of hair detracted from the 'different' right side. When I returned 2 days later with my care worker the owner told me the stylist would be upset, refused to discuss ways of altering the colour and shoved me out of the salon. I a to m still quite ill and broke down. I will be stuck with this for months. I did try to explain to the owner about how many people went to the hairdresser to feel good. When I feel a little less stressed I hope to contact my local press in the hope they will give some publicity to changing faces and point out the duty of care to the hair/beauty industry.
Thanks again

That sounds very distressing. I'm surprised the salon owner was more concerned about making the stylist upset than trying to help fix the mistake. That's really bad customer service to say the least. Have you considered wearing a wig until your hair grows out?
Thank you again for your interest. I think the Salon will get its comeuppance as I live in a small community on the outskirts of a city. I am a strong member of the community and word will soon spread. Good idea about the wig. I was offered one post surgery. Unfortunately, due to the large amount of bone and tissue taken away from the side of my head it wasn't really an option. The best way to cover the gaping void is with my hair. I am a little calmer now, thanks to being able to share my experience. I am still alive and that is the important factor I must hang onto. What a great website!
I'm glad you're feeling better. You definitely have the right to voice your concerns about an establishment that treated you unfairly. Perhaps they will put customer satisfaction as a priority after this. Not many people seem to understand what it's like living with a visible difference and they don't often take our concerns seriously. I wish you a favorable outcome in this situation. We're here for you.
