Having trouble washing my hair

Hia,

I’ve recently had some stitches taken out from my eyelid and I’m guessing I will have some more surgeries to come in the near future. I’ve had six surgeries soo far and my face is healing well but my graft is still tender.

I am wanting to wash my hair and not sure the best way to do it without getting soap on the graft. I used to bend over the bath and wash my hair but I now fear that the soap may affect the graft on my face.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey, I have have a few skin graphs on my face as well as a lot of eye surgeries so hopefully some things I’ve learned can help!

The best way I’ve found to wash your hair is to take a small towel and put it around your hair line so that your face and hair are separated by the towel. You can also use a bunch of cotton balls put together if the towel is too big. This will keep the water from dripping down onto your face.

Then lean backwards to the sink so that your face is looking towards the ceiling and only your hair is in the water from the faucet. If you have someone who can wash your hair for you it makes it a little easier, but you can definitely do it on your own. Make sure not to tip your head too forward so that the water doesn’t run down your forehead.

Also, did your doctor tell you not to get the graph wet?

I don’t think it’s a matter of getting the graft wet, I think it’s more of not getting any hair products on my graft. I’m liking the cotton thing, that sounds that it may help but also may be a lot of cotton wool. The towel I’m not sure coz even a small towel I’m guessing when wet could probably get quite heavy and may drop off and I would probably not be able to see what I’m doing🤷‍♀️

I live alone and also have no one to help me soo the sink thing is a defo no. I’ve got short hair which I chose to cut as all the blood was clotting in the hair during surgeries and was a pain to get out when getting washed at the time when I was admitted

You can try to just wash your hair with a towel then. Get the towel wet and rub your head. Then apply shampoo/conditioner and go over with a clean wet towel. I had a graft over my entire forehead two years ago so I understand how hard it can be and scary to get anything in it. I still recommend the sink or bathtub over a regular shower because it’s easier to control where the water goes.

When I was in the hospital they had me wash my hair with an attachment for the shower that you could hold in your hand. Could you possibly get one for your home shower?

My bath has a shower attachment, that’s how i used to wash my hair, bend over the bath. The wet towel thing sounds like it might work
