Hi once again to you all and an extra shout-out to anyone who has joined us in the community over the past week. Whatever your reason for coming here I hope you'll find us helpful. Between us we've got a great grounding in care, for all sorts of reasons and we're happy to try to support you.
I don't know if anyone else saw this on BBC television this morning which referenced what a wonderful help music is for people with dementia. Our musical memories are something that can really be tapped into and provide a way for anyone who is receiving care to really enjoy something soothing, when other forms of relaxation and fun aren't possible any more. And also for carers when stressed or exhausted.
The item also brought up the topic of the huge generosity on the part of Sir Tom Hunter who donated Β£1m to the Alzheimer's Society/ Music for Dementia charities, after hearing a 4 note piece of music played by Paul Harvey who is himself a sufferer.
It was a lovely, hopeful and inspirational reminder that life and love go on, no matter what and including Covid19, is going on in the world!
How did you spend your weekends?
Mine started with a bit of a bump, from my heart, when my AFib suddenly worsened and led to my spending 8 hours in A&E on Friday. I'm absolutely fine now; just needed an altered dose of my medication, but it was reassuring as well as fascinating to see A&E from the inside during the pandemic.
What was extra fascinating was seeing one of the new PeRSo personal respirator hoods, (which were developed here in Southampton), in use outside of the covid19 wards. It was the first to be issued to a doctor at Southampton General who was not working in a Covid19 part of the hospital. When I spoke to him he said he'd been wearing it for 8 hours and it was quite comfortable, but was drying out his airways. We're learning more every day about controlling the virus in oh so many ways, and shortly I do believe the tide will turn and we will succeed in doing so.
I hope that you are keeping yourselves as safe as possible and managing to keep your spirits up, and I know it's not all that easy sometimes. Take care π
