Good afternoon, instead of my usual good morning and happy Monday to you all.
Saying 'hi' first of all to those who have joined in here this week and especially new members. I hope you'll find this forum helpful.
I took the opportunity to go out to shop in town first thing, as I've seen on news broadcasts that shopping centres are getting quite busy now. Obviously it's safety first but also, at my age, it's really exhausting to have to keep waiting in queues to get into shops too.
This was my second foray into shopping over the past two or three days. I went with my husband to a neighbouring small town on Saturday in the hope it would be a little quieter and it was.
What a contrast with our usual festive pre-Christmas town centres. The holly, the decorations, the gift ideas were all present as usual, as was the guy who usually plays his trumpet to collect money for charity by playing Christmas carols, but what really wasn't present was 'jolly'. As I looked around at all the grim faces, trying to make the best of an awful time for us all, his carols actually only made me want to cry.
The only bright spot was that kids seemed as excited as ever, and it cheered me up to see their parents encouraging them to be as normal as possible. It's really hard for the smaller fry to understand the extent of what's been going on and while I really think all of us needs a big pat on the back for just getting on with things amid all the gloom, the little ones have really been amazing. So many difficult rules we are all having to cope with and sudden changes in what can and can't be done.
More cheering is today's news that vaccines have been going out to the first GP surgeries today.
And what had me trawling around town this morning? A blouse I wanted to buy as a gift for someone was unavailable online in the correct size! Grrrrr!
Home now and enjoying coffee looking out on a darkening sky at 3.30pm! But in only a few days now, we'll be reaching the shortest day of the year and even though we won't notice it at first, daylight will gradually be increasing. And I'm hanging onto that as my positive thought for the day.
Hope you all had a decent weekend and that your Monday hasn't been gloomy.
I wondered where you were this morning Callendersgal. Lol. Good afternoon to you too.
It’s not very cheery here now but we had sunshine earlier which was when my sister and brother in law turned up with cards and our grandsons birthday gifts. He’s 3 on Wednesday. They stayed in the garden and we had our bifold doors open so could chat happily.
I think shopping early is key now or everywhere is just too busy. There’s no joy though as you say. People are grim and tend not to make eye contact. I hope not to have to go anywhere this side of Christmas.
Kids are amazing and tend to just get on with things. Our grandchildren have been really good but I’m very sad not to be able to cuddle them. One day soon though I’m sure.
Our GP surgery is starting a vaccination programme tomorrow so we await the call.
Pete is seeing the respiratory doctor tomorrow and also having a blood test so busy day.
Hi sassy59, What great news that your GP surgery is one of the first to roll out the covid19 vaccine. I think our surgery has had a lot of enquiries as it's put a message on its webpage saying it'll let us know when it's our turn. I think you hit the nail on the head about the fact that no-one is making much eye contact outside at the moment. Is it the masks or are we all just too unspeakably fed up with everything that we can't be bothered?
I hope that all goes well with Pete's respiratory appointment and blood test.
I ended up sleeping off the rest of yesterday. I've got a rotator cuff tear in my right shoulder at the moment and I think all of the analgesics prescribed caught up with me and knocked me right out. Hence the rather late reply to you! Anyway I've moved on with it a little bit as of yesterday as I've been referred to physiotherapy, rather than using the exercises which were messaged to me at the end of my last phone consultation. Honestly, you can only help yourself so much. Algorithms are fine but eventually some human intervention is really necessary!
Hi Callendersgal, I was quite taken aback when Pete told me the news. It’s great to think the vaccine is here at least. I think people are very fed up and have had enough now.
I’m sure Pete will be fine. We have to get the blood test form from the surgery so hope I don’t get bowled over by those rushing to get the jab. Lol.
I hope you get some good physio on your shoulder. That sounds painful.
Enjoy your week and stay safe. Xxx🌈😘💜👍🎅🏻
I have had an active day today going on 2 walks and managing a total of 10.5 miles and the weather was better today than yesterday when it was a washout but I still managed to get out for my walk!
Saturday I had a gentle walk out by the local brook which I enjoyed and I have been enjoying coronation st from 1998.
I remember back in April when this first started when Easter plans were cancelled and I had been full of anger and resentment same as I was back in September when the September plans were cancelled and had confided in my friends as I was ashamed of how I was feeling and they had said to me how feeling angry when plans are dashed is allowed and normal but that lashing out isn't on though.
Here in Cardiff Christmas isn't the same either with the usual pre Christmas things like parties and get together not happening this year same as Southampton is and we have had the silly 6pm curfew thing to deal with as well.

Hi catgirl1976, you are doing some great walks and I admire you for getting out there and getting on with it! I know you've had your share of disappointments this year too, and especially with your job hunting. I think you've coped really well, but you have some good friends to point out that the 'lashing out' thing that we sometimes do when disappointed isn't on. But of course our frustrations do make us angry from time to time.
I know that Wales is having a really difficult time at the moment with the pandemic and I know how hard it is for morale, going in and out of lockdowns but kudos to you for always managing to bounce back.
I hope that you have a really good week. Take care!
