I live in a busy city location but when I got up this morning, it was exceptionally quiet, even for a Sunday morning in lockdown. No cars, no-one shouting, no loud music and only the twittering and cooing of birds to be heard.
That made me think about finding a quotation on the subject of Sunday, and I liked this one, which came from Samuel Willoughby Duffield (1843 – 1887) who was an American clergyman and author.
"Sundays, quiet islands on the tossing seas of life".
Even in lockdown, Sunday has a mysteriously different feel to it. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the lifelong habit of having treated it as a day of rest? I don't know! What does anyone else think?
I hope that, whatever you're doing, this Sunday will be a pleasant one.
Good morning Callendersgal, bright and sunny here on the South Coast. Very quiet indeed.
I like the quote as I do feel Sunday’s are different even now. There’s a stillness, almost reverence to the day. Perhaps it goes back to when I was a child and had to go to Sunday school. Also shops didn’t open........as they can’t do now.
Will much change when this is over? Only time will tell.
Funny it does not seem to work like that here. The days of he week seem to be doing their own lockdown protest and turning up whenever they feel like it and Sunday is the worst of the lot. It seems to particularly like Tuesday or Thursday.and it needs confirmation fom the calendar on my phone to put it back where it belongs. But then is is very peaceful here
