Quotation for Sunday 18th April 2020

Good morning everyone,

The sun's back out again here this morning, and its turned my mind back to nature and the glories of Spring and nature.

In looking, I found someone else I didn't know of, a really interesting character called John (Fire) Lame Deer, a native American (1903-1976), of the Mineconju-Lakota Sioux. He seems to have had a rough and colourful sort of life, and by his own admission he 'drank, gambled, womanised'.

But he was proud of who he was, and his heritage, and he campaigned for native American rights and never lost his deep Sioux spirituality and understanding and appreciation of nature.

This is what he said:

'Listen to the air. You can hear it, feel it, smell it, taste it. Woniya wakan—the holy air—which renews all by its breath. Woniya, woniya wakan—spirit, life, breath, renewal—it means all that. Woniya—we sit together, don’t touch, but something is there; we feel it between us, as a presence. A good way to start thinking about nature, talk about it. Rather talk to it, talk to the rivers, to the lakes, to the winds as to our relatives.'

I think that's a rather lovely idea.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning Callendersgal, I really enjoyed reading the quite from John (Fire) Lame Deer. Very appropriate in light of social distancing. The native Americans have deep beliefs and are very close to nature. That’s a great idea and makes talking to plants perfectly acceptable.

Perhaps we should all be at one with nature.

Enjoy your day too. Xxxxx

Hi sassy59,

I really liked that quote too. I do find native Indians are very connected to nature and I love their ethos and their tradition of explaining nature through story-telling. Often I've had a bit of a smile at 'tree huggers' and 'plant talkers', but this quote puts that in a completely different light and I'm going to be less judgmental in future. 😊

Hope you both had a really good day and that you both enjoy your evening 🦋

Yes at one with nature. I too will be less judgemental and try to be more interested in nature.

We’ve had a lovely day thank you. The weather helps. It’s our daughter and son-in-laws wedding anniversary tomorrow so that’s another lovely day lined up hopefully. FaceTime will be on overdrive. Lol.

Hope you’ve had a good day and enjoy your evening too. Xxxxx

It’s a beautiful quote. Thank you again for the words and the perspectives you bring each day.

I am one of those ‘odd bods’ who loves being in and with nature. 😊

Hi Narwhal, Thank you for saying you appreciate these quotations. It's good to have a little feedback. I'm an odd bod too, and believe that all things in the universe are interconnected and interwoven. 🙏
