Quotation for Saturday 2nd May 2020

Good morning everyone,

I’ve no idea who said this, and I found it among a general list of amusing quotations, but it has a serious theme too.

We’ve all done it, haven’t we? Often in the heat of the moment said something cruel, or just picked the wrong words that have given a wrong impression or an unwanted opinion.

I think there’s a great case for that old ‘count to twenty’ tip. The most cruel things are said in arguments when both sides want to wound and frequently do. But when the heat dies down, a world of regret arises.

It takes only a moment to say or write damaging words. And it can take a complete lifetime to heal the hurt they cause. Some wounds are never healed. Is it worth it?

My own father left home following a bitter argument with his father, and was never reconciled with his family, so I deeply appreciate the deep pain that the wrong words can cause.

“Some things are better left unsaid.

Which I generally realise right after I said them.” -Anon-

Enjoy your day today. The sun’s shining, so I’m going to try to appreciate the many blessings of life and be determined to remain cheerful. Take care everyone.

Good morning Callendersgal, that is so very true. As you say we’ve all done it or been a part of it. I’m now older and hopefully wiser so try to think before I speak.

Enjoy your day and stay safe., xxxx💝😘💝

It's very true sassy59, that many of us do learn how to use words more wisely as we age. I think we feel more keenly how easily they can be taken the wrong way. I'm sure you were never prone to that as you are such a cheerful and loving sort of person. 💖 Have a good day yourselves and keep staying safe.🙏

I think that everybody has something which they would regard as unforgivable and in a really loving relationship this is understood. There are some things you absolutely MUST NOT say however angry you are. Sometimes they are things which do not seem important to other people and i think some of these never spoke again events are caused by careless reference to some very sensitive point by someone who furiously referred to someone's weak point to win a point. Think hard before you do that because the victory may cost more than you thought

That's really so true Freda E. That 'bridge too far' where something wounds so deeply that it can take a lifetime of trying to even try to forgive, even if the wounded one is willing to try. We all have our sensitivities and the problem is that it's the people nearest to us who are aware of what they are. Which makes those sensitivities into a weapon which it's easy to use in the heat of a moment. And it can change a relationship forever. Thank you for bringing that up! 🙏
