Hello All,

Winter is nearly here.

With the clocks due to go back on Sunday morning it will give us an extra hour in bed, extra light in the evenings but dark in the mornings and can confuse many elder relatives. So we really need to be aware that this could be a problem.

Thinking of problems, how has your week been? has it been difficult to manage or maybe its proved to be a comfortable and good week for you and your loved ones?

Why not share with us all how it has been for you? Are you looking forward to comfortable evenings in beside a good fire with a book or dreading the dark mornings.

Please share with us how are things with you. Whatever you are feeling have a good weekend.

MAS Nurse.

Looking forward to being indoors with a good book and keeping nice and warm. I do get anxious though during the colder months as I strive to keep Pete well.

Been enjoying time with our grandsons as it’s been half term. Also looking forward to Halloween.

Have a great weekend everyone and wrap up warm. Xxxxx

HI Sassy 59, thank you for replying. Hope you and Pete enjoyed having them there. They are a tonic all their own aren't they. Stay safe and warm as the wind is very cold today.

Happy Friday MAS_Nurse,

I think the best thing this week was the lovely autumnal weather. The leaves seem to have been slow to fall this year, but finally on one of the crisp mornings this week I took a walk on the Common and found leaves to kick up and scrunch through. I probably looked like an eight year old but I'm old enough not to mind being considered childish and eccentric enough to just enjoy this simple pleasure without worrying about what others think anyway.

As I've posted recently, I really look forward to moving into winter. I love sitting at my apartment window and looking at others out in the cold, muffled up in winter clothing, or going out myself just after dark to shop. I'm not sure what induces the pleasure there, but somehow it's connected with my childhood.

I absolutely love it when it's raining hard and the ground looks glossy and streaked with the reflected traffic lights and car headlamps.

Heaven would be an open fire, but sadly that's not to be in a very 21st century, retired person's apartment. But it is very cosy and not expensive to heat, so I can be very happy about that.

I hope that even the winter haters will be able to find something comforting and positive during the coming weekend and in the weeks ahead.

By the time we get around to January, I too will be clamouring for spring to arrive!

Best wishes everyone. Have a good weekend.

Hello MAS-Nurse,

I don't like the dark nights and mornings, I think its depressing and prefer to see more sunlight becauseit can help one's mood which is a motivator for me as I suffer from severr OCD so I need the motivation. My Mum has finally come home from an Elderholme on the Wirral. We have had to get a hospital bed , a chair, a machine that will help her to stand up so she can get hold of rails and rails on her bed and she has to sleep in the lounge. Mum has now seen the Consultant who said her zheumers has progessex to Early stage Vascular Dementaia as a result of htpothyroidism which she has had for about 15 years. Two nurses come in to wash an change her four times a day. Mum needs to see a Speech and language therapist as well as Physio, OT, and she has a Social worker who Co-ordinates her care. We are now waoting for Mum to be referred to the local Continence Clinic who we hope will give Mum an assessment do we can get these special pads from the team. I also sent away for Attendance Allowance form it only came today, and I have enquired about a stairlify and wetroom and they will send me a form to apply for them and post it back a.s.a..p but still waiting, it may come in the next couple of weeks no idea. The good news is that we are delighted to have my Mum home again and so is Mum.She has to have these hogh nutritional drinks a milkshake type of thing because she is extremely weak and needs assistance to move around.. Dad is now giving her the foods she likes and has just started eating again since she came home two days ago.
