It’s amazing how quickly the week has gone by, and we are already well into January! How has your week gone? Feel free to share with us both the highs and the lows. Has anything happened that you feel has made a positive difference to your week, or if you are really struggling with something, that we may be able to help with? Remember this is your space, your place to air and share your thoughts, needs, to find empathy and to support each other.
Did you know that the Romans called this month after their god Janus, the God of Gateways? A friend reminded me recently of a famous poem by the British poet, Minnie Louise Haskins (1875-1957). King George VI quoted it in his Christmas broadcast in 1939 as Britain stood alone, on the brink of war and facing dark times ahead. It has spoken to me again recently, in facing some sad and difficult times as a family right now, and maybe this may encourage you if you are facing some dark times.
Stay strong! Take care,
With very best wishes.

Hi, l am carer for my husband Pete and we had a good day yesterday until the evening when we had a major leak in our utility room, and Pete was admitted to hospital with a suspected heart attack.
I’m hoping he will be allowed home today but won’t know until later. Xxxxxx
Hi Mindover, Pete has had a heart attack and has a blockage. He’s on blood thinners and has a spray. Waiting to hear what happens next but definitely better days ahead. Take care xxxxx
That is a lovely quote. My week didn't start too well. During ablation surgery to reroute a vein in my leg, the surgeon announced that I have lymphedema in the leg. Disruption of a vein is considered to be one of the possible causes of lymphedema. I also learned that kidney disease, which I have, and kidney diet restriction on high protein intake can contribute to lymphedema. I made an appointment with a medical practice that treated the lymphedema I had about four years ago. It was expensive and time-consuming. The only good thing is that I received a good quality used recliner which enables me to rest my legs and read or watch TV at the same time. I also listen to books on tape, provided by a state library for the blind and handicapped. My doctor got me permission to use that library many years ago when I developed chronic back pain.
