'Warning-Graphic Image' Disgrace HOW Dressings Are Not Changed When It Comes To Dementia Alzheimer’s Care & District Nursing

Dose anyone know if dressing that gone green IS acceptable why to leave grossly edema feet toes.

Is disgrace WAY nhs is run these days especially when it comes to district nursesing in the community.

Needless to say THEY are going to get it in morning YET it’s ok for NHS to abuse neglect public patients.

That's terrible to not have changed your dressing. Have you made a conplaint .I would mention raising a safeguarding See what happens then

Hi Vonnieruth my call did the business and the come changed dressing AND told them it’s bit much how the go green befoure changed.

As to invoking issues of safe guarding IF I thought was pafic WOULD but as is take note’s and log AND if dad is harmed would hold them to account.

Just settle for them doing the job at this time

Oh JAS your poor dad, that’s a terrible way to treat him. As Vonnieruth says make a complaint. Xxxx

in reply to sassy59

Hi sassy am always complaining and there response is he should be treated in hospital BUT dad don’t want to go hospital given previous experiences.

But they should do the job really AND what I mean is this district nurses come to house who are clearly not trained in compression dressing NOR using iodine none stick dressings.

So they come say the fine when in fact the not but as short staffed and not trained the don’t like to say .

So things never heal endless cycle of bad care then good but never improves.

Sorry to see and hear this Jeff , and I agree with you care in the community is failing the patient & the carers like yourself. On the other side it must be an ordeal for your dad having these dressing changed frequently. Complaints are just a waste of energy as you say . But I share your concern as there are many more in the community suffering this approach besides yourself ,often due to insufficient community care staff. Another hurdle overcome by you try not to worry to much , take care stress is not good for you.

Hi Katie Complaining seems to be my way life these days have reputation with care providers to match.

Honestly am not complaining for fun of it BUT voice of those who can’t AND like you say this others in community with no family being treated same AM sure.

Jeff I spend my days like you either complaining for others or myself. I worked in the care field so maybe I expect too much or on occassions I feel they do it to see what my feedback is. I stopped doing official complaints after being victimised for it and labled paranoid. But I do make my feelings known in many areas of community care and have to admit some things have changed but it takes so long. Urgent care is still below standard along with community care in many areas.

Hi JeffAjaxSmith,

On the face of it, that does look extremely nasty and I don't wonder that you are annoyed and worried. However, some dressings are meant to be left in situ for some days to do their work. I had experience of this with my second husband who had diabetic ulcers and sometimes the dressings were quite stomach churning in the way of smell by the time they were due to be changed. But, believe it or not, they were helping with what healing could be achieved in the circumstances.

I so feel for your dad having to suffer this. It can't be comfortable, whether dressings are newly changed or not, but on the plus side his toes are a good pink colour which shows circulation to them is intact.

If you aren't sure about the frequency with which dressing changes should occur, do discuss this with the nurses who help care for your dad, to make sure there isn't any element of neglect, but certainly it isn't necessarily the case.

Hi callendersgal defo agree about dressing DO help but it’s summer and hot weather dose not make injures better in not cleaned.

Have heard seen bandages that do go green but there made like that to detect infection NHS don’t use such things given cost.

My dad regularly leaves puddles on floor from blisters BUT now he as issues with blood like blister’s NURSES said it’s nothing it’s ulcer or strap rubbing.

The talked loaf crap as I seen dad’s feet and one day was no blood blister or red mark from injury THEN over weekend was blood like blister all black and crusty.

Nurse in my opinion play stuff down SO don’t have to call regularly.

Am no expert but think it’s gangrene AND the playing it down so don’t have to call most days.

Now I have immunity lung issues and I don’t want there shoddy treatment infecting me lungs with that stuff.

The do take advantage of Alzheimer’s Dementia patients and that’s prob why the always in hospital given losy community care

Jeff ask for a visit from your dad's doctor or practice nurse Let them come look at dads foot and let them decided what should be done.Least that way you have a professional in put and it will be recorded There is also a head over district nurses so asked if they can send her out to visit your dad instead of the usual DN

I know its not any help to you but please don't blame NHS for this. They are doing the best they can while being starved of money, The problem starts right at the top, please place the blame there.
