Care not in the comunity

I cared for Mam and Dad for 10 years my Mam died in 2011, I received some help as I had go to work my Dad at that could not help as he had got Parkinson's and to be honest he was in shock. My Died of lung cancer and she did not want to be in hospital, we got her home 3 days before she died. This was not an easy thing to do. My Dad died in 2013 in a Home because he needed 24 hour medical care which we could not supply. Before he was taken into hospital for the last time the carer could only spare 7 minutes a day. I don't blame the carer who come to the house but the people in authority. I was getting worse all the time with Osteoarthritis in my neck and repetitive strain injury in both hands a Consultant said I should not be doing the job I am doing because it is slowly making condition worse. I have tried to get a office job but I have not got any qualifications and experience. So I have two government funded organisations say I am to old and disabled so there no help for people like. I have told one lot of people who supposed help when I end up paralysed you can benefits then, I walked out the room before I had to hit and I wouldn't care it hurt me. Its the top half of my body that could become paralysed.

The council helped with my Dad by sending us a bill shortly after he died. I thought medical care was free in this country. I hope you better luck with the authorities than I have.

Hi Jeff, that sort of treatment leaves a nasty taste in the mouth but I’m glad you’ve come onto this wonderful forum to talk about things.

It’s awful when people we love are suffering and you’re not in great health either.

I do hope you receive better care and treatment. Wishing you better days ahead. Take care xxxxx

Hi JeffMett,

I can feel your frustration and this is definitely the place to come and have a good old rant about the things in Caring that are upsetting you.

I bet you are not alone in reaching this point, as unfortunately Carers tend to be a silent army of people with a very small voice in the community and not at all popular with those in government who make the everyday decisions about what help we'll all get.

As usual it's all about the money (or lack of it), whilst we flounder around having to fight for the things we need for those we care for.

Anyway, although I can't cure any of that, I can certainly listen, so please don't feel you are alone. Come onto the forum and share all of your frustrations and, who knows? You may get some answers and help from those who've already trodden the same road you are on and have found a way to access more help.

The very best of wishes and please do stay in touch.
