Hi familytree64, and welcome to the forum. This is a painful condition and NHS Choices website [nhs.uk/conditions/trigger-f...] has a lot of information about trigger finger. Splinting is mentioned as one of the treatments. A phisiotherapist could advise about this and you could ask your GP for a referral. Non-Steroidal anti inflammatory drugs [NSAIDS] such as Ibuprofen may also be helpful in relieving any pain. Do any other members of this forum have experience of trigger finger, please? Please post on here if you can help. Thank you and best wishes.
I have Trigger thumb although it's a bit better at the mo. You can ask your GP for a steroid injection into the finger, I've had two done, you can also buy splints online, the only sure way to get rid of it is to see a surgeon for a tendon release op, it's quick, done under local anaesthetic and cures the problem, I'm going to get mine done if it gets worse again.
thank you, my aunt had the tendon release op made it worse, but will think about the steroid injection in the finger
Hi,
It's a bit unconventional, but my good friend's sister uses a splint made from a flat lollipop stick bound around with a finger bandage, in order to help keep hers straight. Hope this helps, though of course you should also look at the bigger range of measures that will keep you comfortable with this.
I had a similar problem with my third finger. I was referred to the Consultant at the local hospital and given a Corisone injection into that left hand, and have had no problem since.
My husband had this after we had been to a shooting range in America it was agony for him, he had three fingers when they locked, he said he'd never had a pain worse than it in his life, he ended up going to the doctor who gave him steroid injections twice, as your only allowed them twice they referred him to the hospital, they had to operate on his hand to cut the bands so the ligaments would not catch on them and lock his fingers, they did all three on the same day, it took a few months for it to recover completely, now he so glad he had it done no pain or discomfort now, the procedure was 100% successful
Hello ☺my partner uses a frog finger splint, they are very cheap and do a grand job. Google 'trigger finger splint' for a large selection of splints at varying prices, but as I say, he finds the cheapy frog splint just fine. Hope this helps.
