Hayfever -> cold -> chest infection

Hello everyone!

I am 39 and was diagnosed with bronchiectasis after a CT a few years back. Generally I'm ok and it's managed well.

This year my hayfever has been off the charts! I had a few days of severe symptoms, streaming, itchy throat and nose, the whole nine yards. Then some other symptoms creeped in that felt more like a headcold, and for the past 24hrs I've been on my back with the classic lung infection symptoms and I've been huffing for Britain to try and keep my lungs clear.

Does this pattern seem familiar to anyone? Is hayfever often a gateway to mucus production and therefore chest infections? This is the first severe illness I've had in the summer months as long as I can remember.

yes, this can definitely be a common pattern. Anything that leads to mucous production increases the risk of infection

Thanks Sugar 😊

All learning, now have a stock of hayfever tablets to fend off the symptoms if they start again!

Yes, it starts with tree pollen. This year grass pollen has affected me badly as well. As I have post nasal drip hay fever definitively exacerbates the bronchiectasis. People who have never had hay fever are suffering this year.
