Stenotrophomonas Maltaophilia and Psedudomonas now

3 weeks of Cephadrind iv did not cure Pseuomonas. Now i have another infection as welll.

Any advice appreciated

Really discouraged. Was on both Levaquin and Cipro for 5 mos or more .

Yes, it’s a pain, but it’s almost impossible to get rid of pseudomonas completely. It may appear to be gone in that the levels are insufficient to show up, but it always seems to come back eventually. Don’t panic though! It can be effectively suppressed with nebulised antibiotics. In the UK they generally try colomycin first, but Tobramycin is another, and I believe one of our members nebulises ceftazidime. I’m on colomycin & only need IVs (which I usually do myself at home) maybe twice a year.

S.maltophilia is usually treated with an oral one, cotrimoxazole, known as Bactrim in US & Septrin in UK. I know it’s discouraging when you keep culturing these hard-to-treat bugs. I get very down at times too. It may take a while but I’m sure you’ll get on top of both of them, don’t worry.
