Hello I’m new to the group. Bronchiecstasis was recently picked up on a CT scan and I already have asthma. I feel very worried about the situation. I am 55 yrs old with a 12 and 16 yr old so wondering how I manage to avoid chest infections. Can anyone give advice ? Thank you .

hi the short answer is with great difficulty if you have kids around. I believe you can buy nasal gels to stop the germs entering. I think you will just need to be very careful around people when they have coughs and colds. You may find more helpful tips on the lung conditions thread on HU. Clearing your chest daily is a must to stop the germs multiplying. You should also have a two week course of rescue antibiotics to take when you do start an infection.
If you are getting constant infections, ask your Consultant for a Prophylactic dose of Azithromycin.
This is also very good for us asthmatics as it helps open your airways.
I had bronchiectasis picked up earlier this year on ct scan so I’m new to it too. I’m 53 with 4 children aged 14 to 22 (one of my 22 year olds is very autistic)
I’m still getting the hang of clearing my lungs properly, mine have pseudomonas through therm so I’m on a 3 month azithromycin trial. Also on waiting list for pulmonary rehab. My asthma consultant and my GP have both been very kind and taken time to explain stuff to me.
I’m still v new to all of this, so don’t really have helpful advice.
