Hi, brand new on here. I was diagnosed in July 2023 and haven't drank since. Feeling better and not on transplant list which is confusing me a little. I kind of don't know whether I will need one or if my liver recompensating means I won't ever need one. I will never drink again ever that's been my biggest achievement so far but is it enough..... I really don't know. It's scary, I've just turned 40 and want to do so much, I feel and look fine, no one would ever suspect I had anything wrong with me to see me but obviously it's sadly not the case. I'm kind of here asking the question, can I live for another 20 years? I really don't know. I'm a good motivator if anyone here wants help or a chat about quitting the drink, I didn't think it would be possible for me but it is and it's actually not as hard practically as it is mentally so message if I can help you and if you can give me any words of wisdom. Thanks for reading

Sure I think you can live 20 + years. I have a friend who almost died, stopped drinking and probably 15+ years later is out riding her horse every day and still working full time and creating art in her 60's. I don't think you need to put a limit on it ... Keep living healthy. Have you had followup ultrasounds and other tests to be sure everything is going ok? If you ever ran into trouble there is the option of a transplant but you may never need that. Best wishes!
If you are recompensated, you do not need or want a transplant.
You can live 20+ years if you look after your liver, many do.
Be happy you don't have to have a transplant. I am a year younger than you and had two in 13 months, do not recommend if this can add some more motivation
Well done on what you have achieved. No one can give any guarantees, but I agree with what others have said...there is no reason why you cannot live a long, fulfilling life. Keep up the good work, keep any medical appointments, even if you are feeling well. Hopefully they will continue to monitor you. Be aware of possible symptoms of things worsening...gettting bloated (ascites), vomiting blood or very dark bowel movements (bleeding varices) and other things you might read up about. Often liver patients can not even realise things are starting to go wrong. Best wishes to you.
Good on you for quitting,I am actually trying to do the same I am not under any doctor etc but I know my health is suffering,if you drank everyday how did you manage to just stop keep up the good work
With stopping drinking you should be able to turn around your livers health 😘
WELL DONE for stopping drinking. It is very difficult to do because drinking is socially acceptable. So it can be even more difficult if you have friends who are still drinking. I have read numerous articles regarding compensated liver survival and they reckon 4 - 20 years on average. So obviously some people have survived +20 years. Then of course if your liver recovers than without drinking you would probably live a normal extent.
Of course non of us know how long we have, and ideally the Health Service would prefer not to give out liver transplants unless you are desperately ill.
So, continue as you are doing a sober life, but fill it with things that make wonderful memories for you and those you love. You are doing fantastic x
