Has anyone ever had a Fibroscan underestimate scarring?

I know Fibroscans can overestimate scarring in people with a high BMI but has anyone ever had a relatively low kpa from a Fibroscan and then have other tests (ultrasound/CT/biopsy) indicate more advanced scarring?

I had a Fibroscan the other day and it came out at a kpa of 2.9 and CAP of 186. Firstly, this shocked me because I thought I had cirrhosis. Also, I was diagnosed with a fatty liver via ultrasound last year so the CAP indicating no fat in the liver makes no sense.

Secondly, during the scan, after taking a few measurements, the practitioner asked me if I’d eaten that morning in a confused tone of voice and when I told her I hadn’t she moved the probe to a different area. I feel like the only reason she would have asked me if I’d eaten was if she saw a high reading and wanted to check whether I’d eaten as that can cause an elevated kpa. I’m now terrified that she saw a high kpa and then moved the probe to a different area (perhaps with less scarring) to get a lower reading and then only reported the lower reading to me and didn’t tell me about the higher one. Maybe because she didn’t want to write another GP referral letter? A lady before me was in there for 20 minutes so she must have gotten bad news and needed a letter writing + some counselling from the practitioner and maybe the practitioner couldn’t be bothered to do it again.

They should take 10 readings minimum for your fibroscan and the kPa score you get is the median i.e. mid point of all those readings. Any report should also show a % IQR which helps to determine accuracy of the result.

I think you are reading to much nto this and worrying over nothing, with some obvious health anxiety. Let me put something into perspective my fibroscan latest reading was 38.2. before that is was 41.4. . If my fibroscan was 2.9 which is nothing and normal for a 27 year old I would be throwing a party.Stop worrying and enjoy your life, I'm 63, play golf twice a week, run a business and .not had an alcoholic drink in 3 years.. Am I concerned yeh a little , do I worry no I don't

"Also, I was diagnosed with a fatty liver via ultrasound last year, so the CAP indicating no fat in the liver makes no sense." Your previous post said you lost weight; that may have cleared the fat.

They take 10 readings, and they have an IQR score, so you should have 10 good readings. You are only 27, and it would be very rare to get to severe damage even with NAFLD at that age.

It is highly unlikely that you will experience scarring at this stage; simply continue with your lifestyle change and schedule periodic checks.
