I know Fibroscans can overestimate scarring in people with a high BMI but has anyone ever had a relatively low kpa from a Fibroscan and then have other tests (ultrasound/CT/biopsy) indicate more advanced scarring?
I had a Fibroscan the other day and it came out at a kpa of 2.9 and CAP of 186. Firstly, this shocked me because I thought I had cirrhosis. Also, I was diagnosed with a fatty liver via ultrasound last year so the CAP indicating no fat in the liver makes no sense.
Secondly, during the scan, after taking a few measurements, the practitioner asked me if I’d eaten that morning in a confused tone of voice and when I told her I hadn’t she moved the probe to a different area. I feel like the only reason she would have asked me if I’d eaten was if she saw a high reading and wanted to check whether I’d eaten as that can cause an elevated kpa. I’m now terrified that she saw a high kpa and then moved the probe to a different area (perhaps with less scarring) to get a lower reading and then only reported the lower reading to me and didn’t tell me about the higher one. Maybe because she didn’t want to write another GP referral letter? A lady before me was in there for 20 minutes so she must have gotten bad news and needed a letter writing + some counselling from the practitioner and maybe the practitioner couldn’t be bothered to do it again.
