Good evening. My Girl has just spent 5 weeks in Derriford because of infections, kidney and sodium problems. She came home on Tuesday which we were all excited about. She’s been in Hospital again all day today to have her abdomen drained. She’s absolutely wiped out emotionally and her body is tired. She’s struggling now saying that she doesn’t feel like herself at all. I did say it would take awhile to settle back in after being in hospital for that length of time. I just feel helpless. Can anybody give me some advice how I can help her 😢

My Girl

So sorry to hear what My Girl has been through. My husband was only in for a week with his infections and drain but it took him another week to get back over it. 5 weeks is a long time to be hospitalised so it may take a good while more for her to get back to normal. He was exhausted and lost his appetite but it is really important to keep eating and drinking within any dietary advice she has been given and to rest well. Also it may take a while for the drugs they would have given her to exit her body . Sometimes the emotional part is harder to get over so once she gets a little stronger fresh air and nature can be very uplifting. But how about you? How are you coping as you have been on a rollercoaster too? Have you got people to support you and are you looking after yourself? Sometimes as a carer I think we forget about that and our loved ones' suffering consumes us too.
I hope that My Girl starts to feel stronger soon and that you are okay. Take care.
Hi there it’s completely normal for My Girl to feel like that I was in for three months and what helped me was my was was by my side. Not literally but there for me and when she was sitting next to me we didn’t have to talk all the time just being there watching the iPad or doing a puzzle, but just being there. Good luck and fast recovery 💕💕from the wife and I.
Stay safe All
