Probiotics to control chemotherapy side effects

Hi all, my dad has been diagnosed with liver cancer, his body did not tolerate immunotherapy and he is currently being treated with Cabozantinib. We are waiting until the next MRI to see if that's going to work, however he's suffering from diarroia and I wanted to ask if anyone has used probiotics to control similar side effects. In my simple mind these are just innocent supplements to balance gut bacteria but his doctors in Greece would not bother discussing anything 'alternative' and I don't want to suggest anything that might compromise the effectiveness of the treatment. I would appreciate any experience or knowledge on the topic. Thanks a lot!
