During last flu season I came down really bad with the flu, I could barely get up for two weeks, O2 SATs dropped below 92%. The GP just said it was normal, just taken had a bad hit with the virus. I decided to get a baseline private Blood test and what it showed was borderline Lipids mainly LDL/HDL, Total cholesterol about 10% from the top of the reference range. ALT showed 61. I followed up with a GP however they said while it is NAFLD just adopt a health lifestyle and then do a blood test in a year.
Reading this forum however I notice a lot of people get Liver Scans(Ultrasound or Fibro), is it worth doing one of those? I cannot see my GP referring me for one but I would consider paying for one if it was worth it. I am based in the Midlands if you do have any suggestions. My BMI at the moment is 30, but I am actively loosing weight now(through diet and exercise.)

Welcome to the forum! I have edited your post to remove detailed test results as the British Liver Trust ask that users do NOT post detailed test results or ask for specific comment on such. Test results vary according to both the individual’s whole health and the laboratory analysing the results and should always be interpreted by the user’s own doctors/health care professionals.”
Here is the link to information about non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) on our website, which you may find useful:
If you are in the UK and would find it useful to talk things over, our nurse-led helpline is open Monday 9am to 3pm and Tuesday to Friday 9am to 4pm on 0800 652 7330 excluding bank holidays.
Just to point out the BLT roadshows will not fibroscan folks who already have a diagnosis. Their page states:- "These events are run to raise awareness and are not diagnostic. We cannot offer a scan check to people already diagnosed with a liver condition, patients who have received a liver transplant, anyone with a pacemaker or similar device or anyone who is pregnant."
Just so folks don't think they can just turn up and get one or bypass waiting times etc.
I take your point (although it really did surprise me) as in two of our recent online BLT MASLD group sessions, and the follow up email circulation, the roadshows were promoted to us as part of the BLT updates (without caveat). So confusing.
From what the OP described; it sounded like GP comment "NAFLD" by reading blood tests (as opposed to having attended and received diagnosis by a Hepatology Clinic, Ultrasound or Fibroscan).
Ho-hum. (A British "expression used when someone is bored, or when they accept that something unpleasant cannot be stopped from happening").

Its this bit that worries me a little, that no scan was done I was told. They did call back after and suggested a follow up blood test after 1 month and I have had that, the results are not yet back. The second round of tests are for Liver function, full blood count and Hepatitis.
The diet/exercise and weight loss "treatment" is not going to do me any harm(benefit really) but in the back of my mind I am not sure if really what I have is NAFLD yet anyway. From more research however there are two things that make me think that its not NAFLD:
1. The blood test was not fasting I had breakfast 1.5 hours before the test, TG could have been higher due to that. They were only 1.77 so if elevated due to food then they would have been in range if it was a fasting test.
2. I had just come off the back of a really bad flu/cold/viral infection, it had been a 4 weeks however it could have just been post viral stress rather than stress from Fat on the liver.
What I am holding out for now is the results of the current blood test, if they show ideal Liver enzymes then I will work on the basis it might not have been NAFLD. I might do a Cholesterol test again but only after I hit my target weight.
If they have dropped to say close to the top of the normal range, the only real option I have is start a full private consultation with a liver clinic to get any type of scan, GP said NHS would not consider it necessary with that result for a scan.
If they stay similar then GP is happy to refer for ultrasound.
