I have been diagnosed AIH by bloodwork and due for liver biopsy. My ALP is 719 and ALT is 197. Liver is "doing its job" currently but need treatment and no cirrhosis or liver damage visible on ultrasound. Consultant says I am classic textbook case for AIH. Very good care at hospital. My questions are what is the starting dose of steroid treatment ( prednisone) how long will it typically last for a mild (er) case and what should I expect in general? Any advise is welcome- thank you
Hi BettyAIH, if you do Facebook at all there is a UK based support group with almost 4 1/2 thousand members all of who either have AIH or are (like myself) caring for a loved one with the condition. They are supported by some of the top doctors in the UK working in the field of AIH treatment and research and have really knowledgable members who are at all stages of diagnosis from newbies like yourself to 30+ year veterans and also members who have undergone transplant etc.
Folks are on all manner of treatment plans and the protocols for AIH treatment are shared their frequently. You'll get a warm welcome and lots of support.

This is a question that your own health care professional is best placed to answer, as only they have access to your medical records and each person will be individual.
We suggest talking this through with your own doctor or health care professional in the first instance.
If you [are in the UK and] would find it useful to talk things over, our nurse-led helpline is open Monday 9am to 3pm and Tuesday to Friday 9am to 4pm on 0800 652 7330 excluding bank holidays.
We also facilitate a range of virtual support groups for people in the UK living with a liver condition (and their families and carers). If you would find it helpful to speak to others with shared experience, you can register to join a group here:
