So I've just been for my first scan since I was discharged from hospital in May and the sonographer just commented 'it still looks rough " I said no change then and he said I don't know and I asked if it could improve and he said with some factors and that's all he said, and now I don't know what happens or what to think? Has anyone else had this reaction from their first scan? Was I expecting to much too soon? I have abstained from alcohol for 7 months but I am prescribed painkillers for arthritis and chronic pain
Abdominal scan: So I've just been for my... - British Liver Trust
Abdominal scan
The sonographer isn't qualified to offer comment and can't compare with what's been seen before.
This scan will reviewed by a radiologist doctor who will compare scan with any previous ones and will send report to the doctor who ordered the test.
I have quickly read back your story and as you already have cirrhosis it isn't visually going to improve much. 6 monthly scans at this stage are to monitor and check for change, aditional lumps and bumps and to monitor portal veinous flow check for ascites and look at the abdominal organs etc.

I think the sonographer was referring to the texture of your liver.A healthy liver is smooth, like a plum.
A cirrhosis liver is rough, like a prune.
That won't change.
The main reason for the regular scans is we have a slight increase in the chance of getting liver cancer and it can be cured if diagnosed early.
