Abdominal ultrasound

Hi - I had some elevated liver values after some medical steroids.

I have had no stomach pain in my life at all, however was asked to do a fibro scan.

There was some discomfort in the scan however after and for 9 days i have had stabbing pains in my stomach, upper, sides, middle, like. Hot knife with cramping and muscle pain too. Along side lots of burning sensations (like acid reflux)

I have spoken to the sonography who said they should cause no effects and my GP has offered no advice.

I am super worried as this is every acute and its not easing up.. I am considering A & E today but not sure what they can do?

Any thoughts!

Hi Findingthecure,

We are sorry to hear of your situation, if you are in pain we recommend you try and discuss this with a doctor or healthcare professional soon as possible.

We also have a nurse-led-helpline, if you are in the UK and would find it useful to talk things over. The helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm on 0800 652 7330.

Best wishes ,

British Liver Trust

I had similar symptoms after my fibroscan. They lasted for about 2-3 weeks. I was also told that I should have had no side effects. I think that is not the case for everyone.

My results also showed high S (fatty liver) with F0, when I was diagnosed with cirrhotic changes on my liver after an Ultrasound.

Then my doctor recommended an MRI with contrast to confirm or rule out. The MRI results came out 100% good. No cirrhosis No fatty liver.

Hey Arc - Thanks for responding. Did it completely resolve. Literally my whole stomach is cramp and the sides and other areas have stabbing pains, with lots of reflux.

I was on steroids in May and thats the reason i was given the scan ( i didnt want it) and i think that might of weakened my stomach.

Do let me know im in agony here.. and not sure if i should goto A & E

It did resolve. I never had reflux or cramps. I did have some sharp pain in the liver area but it phased out. Maybe there is something else going on, maybe you want to have that checked out.

Thanks- yeah i went from zero stomach issues at all to full on messed up! Only thing i had was the full scan.. I had a GP check me and offer just reflux tablets, so i will have to goto our ER here if it ramps up from where I am now :(

Hi, If you are in a lot of pain, don’t assume it’s the fibroscan, it could be something else. What would you be doing if you hadn’t had the fibroscan? If you’d be going to the GP or A&E, then you probably need to do that now. I hope you feel better soon.
