Jaundice eyes

My partner has cirrhosis fibroscan 75kpa and capscore 310. Which I realise are on the high end of things. He has varices and is on betablockers. He has no ascites but his legs are swelled and itchy. His eyes are becoming more and more yellow almost orange in the corners. I don't know weather that means he's getting worse and should be ring the specialist. My son and I recently went on holiday and he binge drank whilst we were away . I fear he is an alcoholic and is still secretly drinking

Hi, What your husband has got are not good i was a heavy drinker and i woke up one morning and i was yellow skin and eyes they sent me straight to A E and i was admitted, and 2 weeks the yellow had gone i felt all right really could not understand why i was in hospital, they told me to stop drinking straight away or i will die i just did not believe them so i carried on bad mistake few months later i went yellow again same againstraight to A E admitted still felt fine i did i was in for 2 weeks and they told my wife i would not be coming home i felt all right in myself and i could just not beliveve i was that ill i did come out but i decided to give up for a year at first but my yellow never went eyes skin , so after about a year of blood tests my bloods did not improve i knew something was wrong 1 more year went by then swollen ankles ascites HE i was going down hill so fast but really i still felt alright never felt like i was dying so then they put me forward for transplant my liver damage had gone to far i was so confused because i had HE i did not really no how close i was to death till after operation i had my transplant only 5 months of being put on list so it shows how ill i was. Now your husband gone yellow that is a serious sign of liver damage he needs to stop straight away he may feel alright but dont let it fool you like it did me you could reverse your liver damage if you you catch it in time dont wait and carry on drinking like i did any drink is not worth it of what you have to go through in end stage liver disease. you feel alright but you not. Lon

Thank you for your reply. I just worry about him so much. I don't know if he's drinking or not still he was/is always so secretive. It's such a terrible disease

Hi. Get him into rehab if he's still well enough. If you feel he's drinking along with the other signs tells me he could be in very bad shape. My story is much like lon's only when my eyes went yellow I made a regular doctor appointment. 3 days later I woke up completely yellow. Doc sent me straight to ER where I was told to call family, they should come SOON. I had 5 days to live, unless a liver was found. There was also concern I would return to drinking. I was fortunate enough to have one doctor (luckily a high level one) fight for me. That was 8+ years ago and I'm well and have been sober since. But he MUST prove he is able to live sober before they will transplant. At least here in the states. If you are interested where to look/check for alcohol pm me. I drank for many many many years incognito. Sending prayers 🙏

Unfortunatly people have to be honest with themselves.

75kpa is as high as a fibroscan reads. These are not high readings they are the highest readings.

Your husband has symptoms of decompensated cirrhosis. This means his liver cannot perform all of its functions. If he does not stop drinking, he is seriously risking his life.

Please call the BLT helpline and get you and your husband some support. Livers can and will repair themselves if you treat them well - diet, exercise, NO ALCOHOL AT ALL. Ever.

Good luck, please talk to your husband xx
