My wife was diagnosed with the big C on Monday and my urge to drink came back with a vengeance.Weakened and had just one but realised drunk me is a useless idiot.

We both have a fight on our hands and sober me will be there for her.

Getting older sucks.

Hi Roy ,Sorry to hear the news on your wife .

Sometimes when we are faced with big news like that ( I too was the same when my dad got secondary brain cancer) our old ways of coping come through to the front regardless , but when we realise that a drunk you is not the answer we soon get back on track .

Take one day at a time Roy, reach out if you need to talk or vent at any point ,you can pm me if needs be

Sending you both strength and positivity at this difficult time.

Hugs 🫂

Linda

If any of you need a reason to give up try this one.

The money I have not spent on booze is paying for her private treatment with a top Dr at the Royal Marsden.

Hi Roy I’m so sorry to her about your wife and so understand it must be such a stressful situation and drink may seem the only relief you get . BUT you’ve done so well and given everyone such good support on here and I’m sure they will join me in saying you have got this !! You’ve done it before you can do it again put behind you what’s happened it’s done now . Just focus on your wife and her health and I’m sure you’ll be there for her every step of the way - sending love and strength x

I'm sorry. Very glad to hear you are able to get her treated at Royal Marsden. A friend of mine is having private treatment there and says they are very good. It's a scary time and you are right that sober you is going to be better able to care for both of you. Wishing you both all the best and I hope her treatment is successful.

Sorry to hear the sad news of your wife’s diagnosis Roy

Must be heartbreaking for you but fantastic you realised that you need to remain sober and positive for both her and yourself Sometimes life’s struggles are so hard

However, apparently two out of three people get diagnosed with cancer. Sounds like she is having the best treatment and I sincerely hope for a healthy future for her. And also for yourself.

Take care.

Sad news for you but, I must say, what a truly fantastic guy you are. You have not spent money on yourself and your dear wife will be receiving the best treatment thanks to you. I am sure the outlook for you both will be fine so stay "on top" as your beloved wife will now rely on your devotion and strength. Thoughts to you both. x

Don't be hard on yourself, you had one and realised that was the wrong response, that's positive. I'll keep you and your wife in my thoughts, you never know, the universe might transmit some positive energy (we can but hope)!
