HI just had a fibroscan as suspected AIH had high LFT and strong positive SMA the fibroscan wasn't a clear scan really and ended up getting the best out of a 5 attempts. Result shown 5.9 does any one know what this means please ?

Your fibroscan isn't going to be a reliable test with so few readings PLUS if you currently still have elevated inflamation markers your kPa result can be falsely elevated. That being said if 5.9 is correct you haven't yet sustained any great degree of fibrosis.
To confirm a diagnosis of AIH you are likely to have to undergo more tests yet.

thank you so much for your reply, i'm worried sick about it its just that both my doctor and consultant have said its highly likely to be this AIH but the fibroscan today looks promising doesnt it , as not showing any damage
If you can catch AIH and commence treatment soon enough then hopefully you stop it doing any damage. Fibroscan doesn't help in the diagnosis of AIH but can indicate if any damage has been done. If your kPa is accurate then that's great news, hardly any fibrosis.

thank you !! i guess the next step would be a biopsy just got to wait for my consultant now its just waiting in limbo and i dont deal with stress well and its easier said than done not to worry
The one good thing with AIH is that it can be treated and controlled with very effective medicines and if you have no damage now there is no reason that you will ever have providing it's identified and treatment commenced.
If you do Facebook at all there is a very supportive AIH community on there with about 4000 members all of whom either have AIH themselves (at all stages of diagnosis, newbies to old hands who are 30+ years into their journey) or folks like myself who are supporting loved ones with the condition.
Group is a private one so no one else on your facebook will see what is shared there. Find the group at:- facebook.com/groups/AIHorgU...

You need a biopsy to diagnose AIH, the Fibroscan will detect any damage to the liver but not diagnose AIH. If AIH is diagnosed early damage will hopefully be minimal and medication should keep it this way. AIH is a very rare disease. Best advice is see a Hepatologist who has expertise in AIH.
