Just want to say that although I am confused I am also thankful with the results I received following an US.
Making this short I have been diagnosed with Cryptogenic cirrhosis following abnormal bloods and Fibroscan. As per NICE guidelines I have bloods taken every 6 months and US. I have also had an Endoscopy to check for varices. The endoscopy was normal, no varices. At the latest US I spoke to the sonographer and asked how severe the cirrhosis was. He said that he could not see anything, he mentioned abnormal bloods and fibroscan in correlation usually form a diagnosis, although he seemed perplexed as to why he could not see anything. Obviously I will need to wait for the written report to go to the consultant. I am really pleased that nothing was seen but also confused. Does anyone know of a circumstance of false positive on a fibroscan and how was it discovered. Initially I was told biopsy was not necessary as Fibroscan was gold standard or maybe a MRE. I have a virtual consultation in April.
Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed

It is strange as far as I know biopsy is. Anyway did you have an ultrasound? What was the result? Also Cryptogenic cirrhosis is diagnosed by ruling out other possible factors that might damage you liver. Have you been checked for example for HCV? About possible false positive Fibroscan it happens but usually when other tests tell something else (and the result is not so high let's say 14-20 kpa).
Thanks so much for your reply. Yes all tests including HCV are negative. I’ve never drunk alcohol and bmi 22. Think that’s the reason for the crytogenic diagnosis. When I had the ultrasound nothing abnormal could be seen, just waiting for virtual appointment. On initial diagnosis the consultant thought it may have been lean NAFLD that led to cirrhosis, but I think that could be unlikely too. I think I may ask if a biopsy is an option. I don’t know. The reading on fibroscan was 17kpa
I see. If I were you indeed I would ask if liver biopsy can be done. Maybe there will be some answers after this. Abnormal blood tests and your Fibroscan result (also symptoms?) are something to be alarming. On the other hand normal ultrasound, normal BMI, no liver disease so far diagnosed, no family liver disease? are against. Good luck. You have to trust your doctors because liver disease are sometimes hard to diagnose.
Hi, just read your message. I was diagnosed through bloods as having NAFLD last year. My US was 17.5kpa..I had over the year 2 biopsies ( one through the side of my liver, and the 2nd one 6mth later through a endoscopy) the results of the scaring came back the same through both biopsies..But the US came back as 11.4kpa . .Maybe a biopsy will determine exactly what it is. Hope you get some answers soon.
I have had very similar results to you 6mts ago moved to a Mediterranean diet, plus no salt or sugar , had all the checks as you did no side just affects . Just had My 6mts check my liver nurse is saying no concerns with my liver as its compensated and all my results are normal . My fibroscan was done by a student nurse as she struggled to get a scan results. Enough SAID.
