I was diagnosed with cirrhosis 9 months ago. (Alcoholic)
Bloods were high, fibroscan 27, endoscopy showed what was described as "2 barely noticeble varices", no other problems and portal vein normal.
I stopped drinking straight away and 6 months later all bloods were normal and hepatatic carcinoma surveillnce scan was clear so that's all good.
What's confusing me is that today I had a repeat fibroscan and the nurse could not believe the result, initial result was average 10 with individual readings between 2.6 and 23.
She repeated the test and it came out a little higher with a result under 15.
She was cagey about giving a diagnosis but did say that normal bloods alongside the fibroscan result did raise the question about the original diagnosis or that I might be one of the rare people who's cirrhosis is repairing.
She added the Dr might want to do a biopsy so your comments on that please.
Any insight into what's going on will be apreciated.

I would have breather liver every day I just need support sorry I got bad nerves as got appointment today
Regardless of the cause of chronic liver disease, fibrosis is the liver's natural wound healing response. If the injury is removed or treated, fibrosis and cirrhosis are reversible.
Cirrhosis can ultimately because irreversible but that point of no return is not entirely clear. Therefore, the goal is to "Treat the underlying disease and monitor for fibrosis progression or regression.
Count yourself lucky that you're one of the ones where someone can legitimately question whether you still have cirrhosis! The Fibroscan is excellent at ruling out cirrhosis once you've dipped lower than a certain number, depending on your disease's origin. Most cut-offs are at 7. Some are a bit lower (6?) to rule out cirrhosis with a probability over 95%. If you ever get to 5, 4, 3 or 2, numbers lower than 6, breathe a sigh of relief that even the most conservative doctors would doubt that you have cirrhosis. Keep going: you're headed in the right direction, that's for sure.
Wow Roy! I had to look again at the date. It was 4 years ago and it gives many of us hope. I’m 39 and compensated. I don’t believe a biopsy is the gold standard because they can sample a good area or bad one. I’m starting to believe there is no gold standard. I’m hoping mine reverses. I was at around 18kpa 4 months ago. Congrats to you!
