Hi! I’ve recently been diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease after an ultrasound scan following blood tests showing high liver results in all the LFT tests. My GP isn’t overly worried as she said based on the scan results, blood tests and my age she said I have a low enough risk score I just need to ensure I keep exercising and following a healthy diet which I do anyway, and no alcohol which I never drink anyway, and be careful with any medication I take… however I also have a history of iron deficiency, and my ferritin has dropped low again so I suspect I’ll need more iron tablets and quite possibly a long term maintenance dose… my question is, is this safe with my liver? I have an appointment with my GP next week anyway so this will all be discussed, but I wondered if anyone had any experience with liver and being on iron tablets? How was it managed? Or is there a more natural or safer way of upping my ferritin? My GP doesn’t think it’s diet related, and my ferritin has suddenly dropped so much in the last 2 months that it has ruled out a dietary cause, so I will be having more tests and investigations! As an aside, my haemoglobin is top range and hasn’t dropped, and my red blood cell count is top of the range too. I will discuss this all with my GP and follow her advice, however as there will be a lot to discuss I just wanted to get as much knowledge and info as possible to get the most out of my appointment!
Thank you!
