Has anyone had non-liver related surgery, such as a knee or hip?
I guess the primary risk would be infection and types of anesthesia and antibiotics..? Is anyone familiar with this?
My primary care doc said one of the greatest risk is throwing a clot, and with my slightly low platelets (130’s-140’s) would be in my favor.
Any information is most welcome. This would be for a person with well compensated mild cirrhosis.
I read a recent online research study that showed mild cirrhosis candidates were at the same risk as those without liver related disease. Moderate to severe cirrhosis folks were at a much greater risk. 🤷♀️
Thanks!

Hi. I need right hip replacement due to Avascular Necrosis. I have moderate cirrhosis following NAFLD and NASH. This unfortunately caused stage 4 HCC which I am blessed to be a 5 year survivor. My primary doctors are hesitant to give clearance for the surgery. Orthopedic surgeon is more inclined to do it. Bloodwork is good. Platelets 100-130 and INR 1.1.
I am doing well enough that I have been hoping to be delisted from cirrhosis. I am glad (in a way) that I am not, to ensure proper safeguard controls are implemented in the event I do have surgery.
The article addresses the very large percentage of people who are not diagnosed, and could be putting themselves at risk.
