I havent posted for a few weeks . my partner Nick has now had all his tests, scans and a biopsy on his hhc tumor to confirm that it is actually HCC.
He has been told that he cannot have ablation, which is what he wanted to have, because of the position of the tumor.
He may possibly be able to have resection only if his portal vein is functioning. So they want him to have pressure test. Has anyone of you had this ? Is it risky ?
If his portal vein isnt functioning properly there will be no resection. They have said maybe he could have embolisiation. Not sure what this involves. But if not, his only chance is liver transplant but as an ex drinker Im assuming they wont offer him that . Im not sure what to make of all this now. He thinks his life is over . can any of you advise please

Hello! If he is an Ex drinker that won't be a factor stopping him being suitable for transplant. Point being EX.He may have to sign an agreement not to drink out of respect to Liver donors and families out there. He would also have to submit to random alcohol blood test checks.
If you would find it useful to talk things over, our nurse-led helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm on 0800 652 7330 (excluding bank holidays)
Yeah, ablation was ruled out for me as well due to the position so I had Trans Arterial Chemo Embolisation instead. You spend a day in hospital and usually go home the same night. The first one worked great but unfortunately only lasted about 8 months then I had to have a repeat. Each subsequent one lasted progressively less time. After 4 goes (about 2 years) radio therapy was planned but I was offered a transplant before the first session. I hope Nick goes on ok.
It is not painful. When my wife had fatty liver, with a fatty mass compressing the IVC and Portal vein. They did a doppler of the vein, as well as pressure test. They did this as she had eshauphgeal varices grade 1.
The first test showed high pressure with compression of the IVC and Portal. They were talking about how to correct the issue. When the mass vanished, and pressure and flow returned to normal, and the varices vanished.
At the time we said divine intervention.
But my memory of the test so that was December 2020, was it was not a major issue.
