Worried. High GGT & Fatty Liver

Hi everyone

I had blood tests done back in September because I was feeling fatigued. My results come back with 163 GGT and everything else was normal. I wasn't a massive drinker and only had about 5 gins a month, but quit altogether after the results.

My GP arranged for an ultrasound to be done because my Dad passed away from non-alcoholic decompensated liver disease, and she wanted to air on the side of caution.

I've had my abdomen ultrasound done this morning and sonographer confirmed that I have fatty liver, but wouldn't say how much or what stage because they don't report on that. They also told me that they couldn't see anything else sinister and tried their best to reassure me that they see at least 12 fatty liver scans a day (they could see I'm a worrier). I have to wait 1-2 weeks for the report to be reviewed by my doctor.

I'm now sitting in my car with all kinds of things running through my head wondering if my Dad's condition is hereditary and if I have it.

Has anyone else gone through this? I'd be interested to hear your experiences (good or bad).

I know I have to change my lifestyle, but what can I ask my doctor to do next in terms of scans, referrals or medications (I'd like to avoid medication if I can).

Thanks in advance 😊

It's fine and ur safe. Just control your food In take like red meats etc . Alcohol I think a drink a day or 2 won't matter , lose weight.

Give drinking a break . Like every 3 to 4 months go off it.

Exactly the comments I got regarding the ultrasound and the report was inconclusive. I was then referred for a fibroscan which diagnosed a very mildly fatty liver and noted it was nafld despite having two glasses a week. The chap sensitively noted my weight and told me to keep losing it and address it with diet which I have done. The reading was 4.6/239 and I suspect it's now reversed with another stone gone and cholesterol reduced from 7.8 to 5.6.

Be mindful of what goes in beit food or alcohol.

Thank you for telling me about your experience.

I'm hoping mine is very mild. I'm requesting a Fibroscan, so fingers crossed it is and can be reversed.

I think I'm more anxious because I watched my Dad pass away with liver failure and I've never got answers as to whether it's hereditary or not.
