I have heard conflicting opinions as to the safety of HRT and cirrhosis. I have cirrhosis. UKELD score 48. KPA score 37.5. My GP has changed my (low dose) HRT to a gel and tablet: Gel = Oestrogel 80g . Tablet = Medroxyprogesterone 5mg. The enclosed leaflets, however, say ‘do not take’ if you have or have had liver disease. I’m unable to get in contact with my hepatologist. Any advice please ?

I have cirrhosis and my gp wouldn't prescribe progesterone tablets. Unfortunately I didn't react well to the patches so I am in a bit of a fix. I am however awaiting a referral to the gynaecology dept in the hope they know what I can take as the gp doesnt really know what to do with me!
Hi, I don’t have cirrhosis but 3 liver diseases - Alpha 1 ATD, AIH and PBC. My GP did some research and spoke to my hepatologist. They were happy for me to have Estradot patches and progesterone suppositories. I don’t know if that helps. The GP went on to set up a private menopause clinic. I hope this helps. Being menopausal is no fun on its own, never mind with liver disease.
