Hello love. Most important thing really is that no alcohol is taken.....although good none for the last week,so well done to your partner.

As to regards the ascites, I had terrible abdominal fluid.....when inwas in hospital my consultant started weighing me every morning. I was put onto diuretics to try and help with the ascites.....but to much fluid had gathered ,for diuretics to work......I was putting more fluid on every day.

So I had to have the first of several paracentesis done,I think the first time I was drained it was about 12 or 13 litres.......the relief was tremendous.

Things are on the move,if your partner has been referred to hpb unit.

My best .Chris

Best thing to do is no booze and absolutely none forever. They will be put on diuretics most likely to shift the fluid. If ascites becomes very problematic then a paracentesis drain is an option for large volumes of fluid (mine were 22/23 litres respectively) .It's good they are being referred, hopefully getting treatment now will be the best thing.

No booze and miracles will happen. But not booze.

Red wine was my vice, but to be honest before I was hospitalised for a month just over 3 years ago the levels I drank to were insane. I’m 4 years sober now and I would say that the only way to get through this is to abstain from alcohol completely. I know that is easier said than done but I wouldn’t want your husband to go through what I an many others have, and moreover I wouldn’t like YOU to go through it either as I know the pain it caused my family.

He can do this, and to be honest if I can then anyone can.

I wish you both well and keep us posted.💙

May I ask, is it always bad news regarding "Acitees "?😟

I seem to be on top of mine compared to what it was, and continue to take my spirolactone and keep an eye on my fluid intake, although there are differing opinions on what those levels should be. I have an umbilical hernia which fortunately I keep under my top at all times!😀

I agree with everyone about abstaining from alcohol. Pure poison in a bottle. A cirrhotic or damaged liver can’t cope any longer when toxins injested. Love your liver and you will have a fighting chance. Good luck.

Firstly can I say we are all so different. My point being that I don't think that you will get any "control" answer that sets a standard response. Your only control is "stop drinking".

Having launched my caveat at you, here's a positive. I drank way more than that and wound up in hospital with 17 litres of ascites fluid being drained from me.

Since that worst point, mindful that I was fully functioning, I have focused on my health and well being without faltering.

The ascites has never come back, I don't drink, I'm no longer on any meds and do 5km a day. Life is the best it has ever been.

That hope, that optimism harnessed to drive, self belief and your support is a realisable outcome.

I wish you the very best outcome and a bright new future together.
