Hi there, I'm 46 and been drinking since I was 18. I had a period in my 20's when I would drink to excess most night, but I was very active at the time and experienced no real issues. In my 30's I began to experience a slight nipping sensation in my RUQ following drinking and thought nothing of it. Since then the sensation has worsened following drink, but only manifests as a a cramping feeling under my right rib front and side. I sometimes go months without drinking due to my job. I've had so many test carried out and nothing has ever shown as abnormal. Its such a strange sensation as it is not tender to touch at all? Even when I push my fingers up under my ribcage, I feel nothing? Its not uncomfortable to sleep on or anything like that. It's really only noticable when seated. Has anybody else had similar experiences?

Right side discomfort after alcohol
I have the same pain. Have you had thorough tests for cirrhosis? They didn’t diagnose me until I had a Fibroscan. I’m actually going to my Hep next week and will ask about managing this pain. Good luck to you.
Welcome to the joys of getting older!Plenty more aches, pains, and bits that slowly disintegrate still to come🤣
Stop drinking and see a Consultant pdq. I suspect you will need triple phase liver scan and a whole range of blood tests.Good Luck
Hi Jam, I have exactly the same thing and have done for a while. Numerous test show nothing abnormal. My side generally feels sore like it’s is being pinched from the inside. It can range from very mild to medium discomfort but so far doesent impact my day to day.
Yep, same discomfort, like my ribs are nipping together somehow. I have just seen my consultant this evening. He examined me and said my liver is not enlarged and he believes my discomfort is muscular skeletal affecting nerves? I am being referred for a fibroscan, as I requested one. I used to play Rugby for 20yrs so perhaps my body is just wrecked in general. Fingers crossed all is well. I will update once I've had scan.
I was told it was muscular too. Mine has been reasonably good lately but today was pretty bad. Just back from a swim followed by a hot shower and it’s definitely eased up. Keep us posted how you get on and good luck with it.
