I got my own last Thursday, waited two and half years and had one faulty call got to the hospital and it wasn’t as we wanted . But it’s been in since Thursday and all good so far 👍🤞. Keeping fingers crossed that it keeps going well, I would like to thank everyone that sent me best wishes.

Hi Flowergirl I would really like to talk, I am out of ICU in 3 days on solid food two meals but then was really sick 🤢 , so back on clear fluids for the day now on soup yesterday. Now I expected more pain but it’s really not that bad you do have pain but manageable, is that about what happened to you??

I was in ICU for three days before going to my room afterwards (QE Birmingham). I don't recall eating in those three days. The first day was very groggy. I only remember them asking to undo the 'belt around my stomach' as it was too tight. I now realised it was the new liver and the swelling did go down. The second and third days were fine - I think I must have been pressing the morphine button all of the time. because there was no pain at all! I do remember telling the staff I wanted to go for a walk on day three so holding onto two nurses, I walked around ICU. I was sick afterwards only in the fact that I had drunk a glass of water just before and I could feel the water moving around in my stomach - like being on a boat.
Once leaving ICE and in my room on the ward, I ate for England. I had shrunk down to virtually nothing - a dried small prune the size of a child. I was told I would have the TP by the end of 2019. Covid came along and I had the TP in May 20 and made it by the nick of time. I remember my surgeon telling that transplants are amazing as once the operation is finished, just watching the difference so quickly is incredible. Guess that's why they love their jobs.
Recovery time is different for everyone. The morphine really helped with the pain. They like to start reducing the dosage - from memory - when I left ICU. It was a slow process so you don't feel the pain depending on your circumstances. I eventually weaned myself off it as it was making me sleepy and lethargic when I was trying to go for my daily walks and I didn't want to become dependent on it as I recall during an early clinic visit, the surgeon told me that sometimes, they have terrible problems trying to get people off it because they have become addicted to it.
There is no right or wrong way but to listen to your body and follow the experts advice.
I wish you a speedy recovery. FYI: there are two FaceBook groups that are absolutely brilliant. One is the Liver Transplant Support Group QE Birmingham and the other is Liver Transplant Support UK if your not on one of these. There are people who are waiting or had their TPs, family, friends etc, all posting thoughts, questions etc. And of course, this great group too.

Thanks Flowergirl , yes on food today . Must say I do get pain from eating but it’s not that serious and can get buy. Yes I’ve had some wonderful people on this site wishing me luck it’s marvellous to see the good in people around the world. Hope everything goes great for you and everyone else.

Thank you so very much. We are already planning a holiday for next year with two of our friends only to Spain but we have so much fun,then of course try for travel insurance for the USA to see our son and wife and grandson.

My Husband is being sent to Leeds for tests to see if he is suitable for a new liver as he’s been told if he doesn’t get one he’s looking at five years max, He’s been through the ringer these last couple years with one thing after another. He’s never smoked or drunk alcohol, but it lifts your spirits when you hear someone as got their life back it so precious 🫶

Great news remember take your time to fully recover if your going to Spain on holiday keep out of the sun use plenty of factor 50 your skin will be sensitive to the sun with the anti rejection drugs

A bit late in the day but I wanted to send you all good wishes. I know you had to be so patient and you’ve gone through so much to get to where you are. So glad your day came and now you can recover in the NHSs good hands. Try and relax let nature do it’s healing. I had mine 12 years ago, so grateful.

Take it very slow post transplant. Your body doesn't get well just because you have a new liver. Your body has been sick a long time. Give everything in your body time to heal and catch up to your new miracle liver. I'm 12 1/2 years post transplant and going strong.
