Rejected for Liver transplant

Unfortunately my wife got the bad news last night, that she is not being offered a liver transplant. I did ask why she has been turned down & it was revealed she was unable to complete the necessary physical tests, but I believe it is a combination of her age 69 & the fact that she was not strong enough to complete the aforementioned tests. They did find a non occlusive thrombus within the right branch at the level of the porta hepatis extending down to the portomesenteric confluence & superior vein. She is to be prescribed drugs to disperse this blood clot. All in all she was disappointed with the outcome? I tried to explain to her that they have to take the line that she may not be strong enough to undergo the complex operation, & would it give her any longer life at her age. Its a terrible thing to have been rejected but that's life.

So sorry to hear that. Sadly, that's what the assessment has to work out - whether someone is actually fit enough to endure the operation.

Hope you can both make the most of life from here on in, it is still possible to live life even with cirrhosis - just a matter of making the most of better days.

So sorry to hear your news - my husband was told the same three years ago. He is not at all well at the mo but we have had a good three years, made the most of every day and tried to maintain a positive attitude, don’t give up, just enjoy life as far as you can, Anne.

So so sorry to hear your devastating news. I am 71 years old, and, although I have F4 cirrhosis I have not been assessed for a transplant, and don't think I will, due to my age. I wish you both the very best, and try to put this sad news behind you.

I’m so sorry for you two. My mother in law was in her 70’s and was never offered anything. My husband is 56 and we stay hopeful.

I’m not sure if you are interested but my cousin’s husband was told he had 6 months to live and she started giving him beet juice(a beet, a carrot, an apple) made in a blender/food processor. The doctors are surprised, he got better. We are trying it as well. May God bless you.

Sorry to hear this news. But remember it may not e the end of it. Ask for advice on curing or improving any concurrent medical issues. If she improves in general health, she may be considered in the future. I had my transplant 2 months before my 65th birthday (6 months ago) and the recovery is long but manageable xxx

I'm so sorry to hear this.

It's ironic that you have to be fit enough to receive a transplant but when you need a transplant you are very sick.
