hello, does anyone have any idea at all what can cause high lga and lgg antibodies, and also what do raised beta fractions 1 and 2 mean, I can find nothing online that makes any sense, the last dr just said she does not have any understanding when it comes to things like this, I have even looked on this site but I can’t find any information, the less info I find, the more I want to know, if that makes sense, I’m not asking for a diagnosis , just a little understanding if anyone at all could help, thank you xx
understanding antibodies: hello, does... - British Liver Trust
understanding antibodies
I believe these markers show how active our immune systems are because my consultant has told me if I get a rise in these markers along with my ALT then I will have to add a steroid to my treatment.
hi Aztec, thank you for replying, I wondered if they could be due to other things or whether they are only liver related, I’m still waiting to see another dr next week and I hope she will know a bit more than the previous one did, I don’t like to keep asking on here cos I know I sound like I’m looking for problems but I’m not, I have enough already , but I do get anxious if I have no understanding and I get even more anxious when the dr does not know, I was originally tested for multiple myeloma and these antibodies and beta fractions flagged up, but the test was left up in the air, no paraprotein ( myelom protein) showed up so it’s as if they thought it’s not that end of….. I have high blood pressure , diebetes, polycystic ovaries ( womb cancer 4 years ago so all reproductive organs removed) then diagnosed with a rare wheat allergy wdeia that again no one understands, then I got diagnosed with the severe fatty liver and I’m now wondering if the occasional nosebleeds ( this is why I was checked for myeloma) and these raised antibodies are all connected with that instead, I just want to understand what these things mean including beta 1 and 2 fractions , I can cope with things much better if I have an understanding, I’m seeing cardiologist in June due to a year of palpatations and spiking blood pressure, which I know is easily put down to anxiety, but again is it all connected, sorry this is such a long post, thank you for your knowledge and for taking the time to reply, the scary thing I did read was that lga is raised with cirrhosis, but that just reminded me why I should not google the more I can find out on here, th3 mor3 notes I can make as in what to ask the dr xx
Try nor to worry too much. The good thing is that you are being monitored. You have a lot going on so I completely understand your anxieties. I suffer with anxiety and palpitations too and I am also a cancer survivor. All this medical stuff can mess with your head that's for sure. Stay away from Google it can scare the hell out of you. If you have to research stick to the NHS or Gov sites. I like to know and understand what's going on and that's not a bad thing x
Basically testing your immunoglobulins igA igG and igM are to monitor the level of inflammation going on in your liver if any. In my case mine are being watched carefully for my AIH.
aww ok, that makes sense, and can these markers go up and down? Do you mind me asking how high yours have been, my lga was 6.8 (4 was the cut off) my alt is 15 or was three months ago , these tests were not for my liver , but since being diagnosed with this severe fatty liver I think I will remind the dr of these reads to see if it’s connected, my lgg was just wishing at 13 (cut off 16) and the lgm is practically not there at all , it’s so confusing , I hope you are ok though, and thank you again for your help xx
Yes the ig markers can go up and down. Your ALT is better than mine! On my last blood test a couple of weeks ago it was 17 but thats still very good.My last igG was 11.25 and my igM 1.19 but they are within the normal range lab markers and so are yours. Try not to overthink things otherwise you will end up as crazy as me 😁
aww bless you hun, I prob do overthink, and I’m already crazy lol xx
Hi Sofia, the NHS Ap has links to the Labtestsonline.org.uk website, which explains things really well: labtestsonline.org.uk/tests...
thank you so much readlots, wow there is so much info on there, what a fantastic link for covering so much, I’m still at a loss though, I think I’m just thick lol, I did wonder whether the lga are raised due to having Covid injections but I’m not sure whether it does or not, maybe another question for my Dr, although I’m not sure she will even know, cirrhosis keeps coming up when I look at Lga , I’m just trying to find other reasons I guess, thanks again for your help, I will look at this link again it’s very helpful xx
You’re definitely not thick! I think you need a medical degree to understand this stuff - that’s why we all take a list of questions with us for clinic appointments 🤣
