A silly question but what do you need to put in your BAG ready for the off? I need an organised person in my life!

If the transplant goes ahead you'll need very little for the first couple of days because you'll be in a hospital gown but when I packed hubbies bag it had stuff incase he got the call that didn't go ahead and we had to stop over before making return trip. Some stuff you might want for the wait at hospital because you could potentially be there hours before the op.

We had pj's, dressing gown, slippers, wash kit including wet wipes for a wipe down if you are in bed and just want a refresh, small towel, spare pants, socks, snacks (flap jack), a bit of money, phone and phone charger, ear plugs, notepad and pen, puzzle book (to fill time). A couple of days worth of meds including a list of his meds, also slipped a wee laminated page of photos in there to keep him upbeat.

Hope you don't have long to wait for your t/p.

look back through my posts - I asked a year or so ago, and everyone was very helpful with suggestions.

I found to have a list packed in your bag is great, for the things you can't pack beforehand. You will lose your head slightly when you get the call, so good to think of everything now.

We did 2 bags, one for the initial admission pre-op and 1 to keep in the car for when he gets to the ward. The only thing I've changed since our dummy run is that the dressing gown and slippers are needed to walk down to theatre.

you won't need anything initially except a small wash bag, phone and charger, and any medication you take, when you go to theatre everything will be taken away and locked away until you get onto the ward. Pack a bag for someone to bring in later, you still don't need much, personally I wore hospital gowns and nighties as there is usually lots of bodily fluids leaking and it saved having to send stuff home to wash. I couldn't wear knickers due to the drains and I had a catheter for several days. Take a long phone charged and something to occupy you, I had my kindle, although you will probably find your eyes can't focus for the first few days. Take some flip flops or crocs that are easy to put on and you can wear in the shower, you won't be able to bend. Hospital will give you some rather fetching slipper socks 😂 remember you don't get much space to store stuff and it gets in the way, hospital will supply towels, don't expect to be doing much, sleep is what is needed the most

good luck

Those slipper socks are fantastic - Mum brought hers home! Just one thing to add to your bag - your glasses

So pleased you are on the list and hope you don’t wait too long. We packed far too much resulting in me taking most of it back home. There was very little storage space the first few days. Everyone else has made good suggestions so I don’t need to add to them but don’t take too much. Might be good to talk to the hospital as my husband didn’t need dressing gown or slippers to walk to the theatre but I think each hospital has its own procedures. The idea of 2 bags is good. One small one for going in and another for a visitor to take in after the op. Good luck. x
