Hallo friends, I have my Colorectal surgery on Monday, nwhich they will remove part of my bowel! I am beginning to feel like a 'needy patient'! Before my blood transfusion on Saturday, I noticed my voice was somewhat raspy. On Sunday I began to feel like I had an heavy cold. We then tested and it was negative. This morning I am very shivvery, cannot get warm generally feel rough. Since my surgery is somewhat imminent, O am at a loss to know whether to cancel the operation and the cold disappears, or 'take it to the wire' (So to speak) and risk being sent home. At the momet I have no fever (when I do, they are usualy high, therefore noticable) Perhaps I ought to wait and see? Di you have experience of this? Very Kindest Regards Jon

Have you only done a lateral flow test? Sadly the most recent covid variants are frequently not providing a positive response on LFT. I had a two week bout of illness at the start of September which has left me with a cough still, I strongly, strongly suspect this was covid rather than the cold and yet multiple LFT's returned negative results.
A PCR test would be more accurate, I wonder if you should give the hospital a ring and see if they will do a PCR test. I am surprised that one isn't scheduled with you going in for surgery.
I had to have a PCR test earlier this year prior to knee surgery and hubby had to have one prior to being admitted for his ERCP.
Wishing you all the very best,
Katie
Dear Katie, Thank you for your prompt response. I responded shortly after, then saw that I only had the last line registered. I shall try to be lucid and coherent! Last week, MOnday, I was vaccinated; then I was back and forth to hospital, for pre-op assessment, then on Saturday, anothr blood transfusion. The test, I took, last night was a Sars-Covid-2 Antigen Rapid test. So much changing of this and that; with masked people and the coughers and splutterers. I think I shall get myself an Hazmat suit! Thank you for your kindness, Jon
If the test you did was one of the home ones where you see the result in a few minutes that's a Lateral flow test. PCR is usually processed in hospital lab.
I suggest you ring the surgical team and ask their advice, I suspect that as long as you don’t have a fever or test positive they will suggest a wait and see. In the mean time drink gallons of fluids, take paracetamol and try to eat little and often to help your body fight and please get plenty of rest. Good luck
Hope your surgery goes ahead and you make a speedy recovery 💙
Thank you and Kindest Regards for your pleasant words I hope all is well with you and yours x
