I really appreciate all your replies as I’m trying to find out as much as I can to help my son .
he has decompensated liver cirrhosis and ascetics which is building slot more regularly . It’s very uncomfortable for him and he has pain in both sides .
his GFR is 88 from last weeks blood test . Is this the percentage his kidneys are functioning at ? If it is why is the fluid building up if his kidneys are working ?
his sodium level is 129 and the test says this is below normal . He’s been eating a lot of salted crisped lately - could this cause fluid retention. ?
Is the sodium level on blood tests increased by eating salty food or is it a different type of salt ?
Apologies for all these questions . Regards Carol

Although no one on this forum can interpret tests, here is the link to information on our website explaining liver disease tests, diagnosis and screening, which you may find helpful at this time.
Hi he needs to stop the salt, it’s most likely to be adding to his ascites. He needs a high protein high calorie and no salt diet ( no processed foods at all) you should speak to the liver dieting for help, good luck
He should cut back on his salt intake its no good for a de compensated liver any more than 1.5 grams is high thats that i was told he can have a pudding late at night which is a good time to eat with his condition
