Muscle cramps. Crazy Charlie horses… my hands get locked up. Also feet, upper portion of legs in the back horrific lengthy craps that take forever to let up and then seem go away just to immediately start somewhere else on mg body . I take Magnesium and drink plenty of water. What else can I do. It’s been going on here and there for the last couple years. But, Recently it seems they are in stranger / new places and definitely worse. 3 nights in two weeks after thinking they were gone for some time. Now they are back with and angrier.
I Just recovered a moment ago from a terrible long spout of them. Sometimes I’m almost in tears😭.
I don’t drink, i quit a year last September since then not even a sip. I’ve also recently quit smoking🍀 just over a month ago now . I’ve had dental surgery recently which required Anaesthesia. I had a platelet transplant after my dental surgery because I almost bled to death. But theses Charlie horses or whatever you want to call them are the thing I cannot take any longer,”.
The words Charlie horses seems to kind when describing what these feel like.
Please Help, Any suggestions?
I’m desperate 🙈

Have you had a recent set of bloods which including mineral and vitamin levels. Cramps are often the result of low levels of magnesium and potassium but you should only take supplements if they are needed because too high levels of somethings can also be dangerous.
I would try and see your primary physician or consultant for some tests and to see if perhaps you need additional supplements or whether you have a deficiency that can be rectified with food (i.e. bananas for potassium).
Hi, definitely request a blood test for your electrolytes, it's not just a lack of magnesium that can cause the cramps, you may be deficient in something else. You say you drink plenty of water, this is great though do take care that you aren't going overboard as excessive water intake actually flushes out your electrolytes, which could cause or contribute to a deficiency. Hope you get it sorted, it sounds rotten for you.
Hi, I had the same problem and was prescribed quinine. This can only be taken for a few months as it can cause tinitus but it works immediately you take the first tablet. My cramps lasted for hours and did make me cry.
