I'm due to have a liver function test with my gp and have just had a private home liver function test done through thriva the results were normal, would this private test be as accurate and reliable as the liver function test I do with my gp?
Regards

Hi there Pg78 and welcome to this friendly forum. Home tests are are processed in different labs than your GP so it is impossible to comment on their validity. If you are worried about your liver then you should discuss these concerns with your GP. Liver blood tests are one part of a diagnostic process that often also includes assessment of medical history, symptoms, physical assessment, imaging tests and other medical tests.
Best wishes

Thank you Trust 10 thanks for the response just thought I'd try home private before the GPS its related to a drivers medical. I need my liver enzymes to be ok which the home test said were. Obviously high liver enzymes will take time to reduce but is there anything else I can do to lower them quickly ie exercise, certain foods and drinks, non alcohol ofcourse.
Often for a drivers medical they use a Carbohydrate Deficient Transferrin (CDT) test which is very accurate in determining long term or relapses in drinking.
There is no cheating these tests you just need to remain abstinent.
As regards improving liver function, eat well, exercise etc.

Hi Paul - so it depends really! Healthy diet, drinking within national guidelines and exercising are all ways to improve liver health in the longer term. However if you have more permanent damage then could be apparent on bloods or ultrasound.
